Ghetto. Love it.
Other band: "Right on, can you email it to me"?
NO!
I spent basically all day playing with late 20th century fax/copiers, tweaking every tiny parameter.
The poster does not exist in the digital world. It is a picture of a set of headphones, grey on black, 100 grimy smears of nonsense. Conspicuously inconspicuous. I could scan it, I suppose, but it would never be one of those 100.
Photoshop? NO! Fax machine lighting effects!
Rather than print of a batch of my foreground and re-run them through the copier to have the text printed on them, I drew up the lettering in the negative space of a test image and copied the headphones "live" onto the shaped/spaced text. I was using a white 3-ring binder to backdrop it, the little wrinkles in the filmy cover stuff cast little shiny negative-shadows, just playing with it.
Of course, the whole thing is ugly and dull, and no one else is ever going to examine it for hours (well, half an hour) noticing its every random-ass nuance. Plus I really like my coworker's handwriting.
It feels like I just built a boxcar racer or something.
Now I get to go flyering for the first time. Wheee! Hope the big chick with the nailgun doesn't kill me.
We play this coming Mon 8/21 at the Rendezvous, we go on first at 10pm. Not to sound all undeservingly uberrock, but I'm kind of done with "headlining" late on early weeknights, because everybody wants to go home before midnight. Band included. I feel particularly for the headliners, as they're driving out from carnation/falls city, for no or possibly negative pay. Between "room cost", "soundguy", "gas money", and "bar tab".... speaking of which, my email says $6, the print ads say $5/10:30, but they also have other errors. I'm just gonna go on at ten if I can help it. I can't help w/drink tickets (boo) but as far as I know I haven't put anybody on the list yet. Wink wink.
If only my long lost gf were coming back into town that same day.
Anyway, after nearly a year of basically the same set list, even paring it down in some instances... dare I say it... anyway, we've been playing with the loop station lately. We tried this surf tune that sort of came out sounding like the cure, and we sorta played with it in that vein. It's called "UK 80" and gasp, blueshift actually sings. And has time to attempt some lead guitar, love that loop. Anyway it's like two days old at this point, with such a fuck-it gig two days away there's no reason not to. Particularly when we have another new song we've been sitting on that uses the same gear, come to think of it it's kind of surfy too. (Actually, I've been working hard at coming up with a press-kit type undefinition of our, you know, how to talk about what you sound like. I like the nonsense nonstatements that we're dirgey american britpop, or nondescript sex symbols, insturmental screamo, "so metal satan worships us", that sort of thing.) We haven't really given the other new one vocals, at least none that have stuck, but I do take a stab at actual drumkit drumming, and I let ashley mindfuck my guitar amp. Scary.
