NaNoWriMo: Day 23

*looks about sheepishly*

Hey guys, I really dropped the ball on this one, didn't I? I meant to stick to my, mostly, daily updates, but as my word count slowed, my updating here stopped. I wonder why. Basically, after reaching 50k, a lot of my motivation evaporated as it has the past two years. This is why I set myself a higher word count, to keep me going past the official NaNo winning score. I knew I was in trouble when I spent one of the write-ins talking and laughing more with a fellow NaNoer (hey jennifersrabbit!) than writing, but we had such fun that I can't bring myself to regret it in the slightest.

All of this did, however, make me that much more determined to do a lot of writing while on holiday and I have, mostly, managed to do that. It doesn't hurt that the internet access here is crappy at best and that I've found my computer's wireless capabilities seem to have conked out on me :(
My poor laptop is a good six years old now and it has been used quite hard, so I can't fault it. I'm just thankful that I use land line internet at home or I'd be screwed.

Anyway, since arriving in Portugal, I've managed to do 5k everyday with only one exception. Yesterday I managed over 10k which had me breaching the wonderful 100k two days late (I really did some catchup to manage that!) and I've done just over 7k today already, but I think I'll halt there as my index fingers are hurting a bit and I haven't figured out how to type with just my other fingers yet!

I've worked out that if I can only manage 3.5k the last two days of the month (working days), that I need about 6.1k a day to finish on time. Which seems manageable if I get up with my dad and do some writing first thing.

*fingers crossed*

Stats for today:
My word count: 7,261
My total word count: 107,370
My region's total word count: 5,061,550
Total word count of all Wrimos: 1,961,453,998
Word count of the highest Wrimo: 500,000

Yes, you read that last one right. Someone in Liverpool, UK, set out to win NaNo in one day, he/she did. He/she was then challenged to do 50k everyday for a week and then beyond and he/she did. I'm not sure what his/her total word count is now as the site doesn't allow for more than 500k, but just wow. Guess which region is going to win the England/Ireland Regional Word War?
