Last week I finished part one. That part of the book mostly dealt with what it terms "The World Within" and "The World Without". The assignment was to sit still for 15-30 minutes and let your thoughts roam. I found this an easy, relaxing type of meditation as usually meditations come with some sort of thought-control type instructions.
This week deals with the conscious mind and the subconscious mind; and the assignment is closer to the type of meditation I am used to. For "several minutes" a day this week I will be sitting in stillness, but instead of letting my thoughts roam, the goal is to control and inhibit any conscious thought. The book doesn't give a time limit for this one, like last week's 15-30 minutes. I am going to try for 10-15 minutes each day.
Part Two questions and answers:
11. What are the two modes of mental activity?
Conscious & Subconscious
12. Upon what do ease & perfection depend?
Ease & perfection depend entirely upon the degree in which we cease to depend upon the conscious mind.
13. What is the value of the subconscious?
It is enormous; it guides us, warns us, it controls the vital processes & is the seat of memory.
14. What are some of the functions of the conscious mind?
It has the faculty of discrimination; it has the power of reasoning; it is the seat of the will & may impress the subconscious.
15. How has the distinction between the conscious & subconscious been expressed?
"Conscious mind is reasoning will. Subconscious mind is instinctive desire, the result of past reasoning will."
16. What method is necessary in order to impress the subconscious?
Mentally state what is wanted.
17. What will be the result?
If the desire is in harmony with the forward movement of the great Whole, focus will be set in motion which will bring about the result.
18. What is the result of the operation of this law?
Our environment reflects conditions corresponding to the predominant mental attitude which we entertain.
19. What name has been given to this law?
The Law of Attraction
20. How is the law stated?
Thought is a creative energy, and will automatically correlate with its object and bring it into manifestation.
Next week I may have to post Tuesday instead of Monday.
