[Max sounds a little tired and understandably frustrated. This will now be the longest phone call he's given.]Don't bother with that highway. It doesn't go anywhere; there's just signs to towns and place you're never going to get to. It comes right back 'round to Mayfield, like every other bloody road in this place. The diner and gas station have ( Read more... )

[Have a pause]

I see... I haven't gone out today yet. So another Mayfield trick?

Looks like it. It all just loops right back into the town. Useless.

Does it appear to extend beyond the boundaries that existed before?

[Kira goes very quiet, before Max can hear a drawn out sigh]

The road doesn't make any sense, thinkin' on it. Never curves back, but it leads right back to Mayfield...

This place doesn't make sense. Have you met the residents? They're not all normal human beings.

The road shouldn't be able to just lead back to Mayfield without curvin', period. Doesn't make physical sense.

Neither does the idea of leaving out of Mayfield on one side, and coming back on the other, but it seems to occur. Besides, a straight line is actually far easier to use to trick the senses than a curve most times.

I know that happens, too, but this is weirder. At least to me, it is.

Why?

Longer road, for one. Only way this'd make any sense is if the planet were real small.
