Mar'i/Lian drabbles

Jan 22, 2007 23:33

This here is a set of drabbles featuring the pairing of Mar'i Grayson and Lian Harper, each one a hundred words. Granted, Mar'i exists only in the alternate future of Kingdom Come, but it's a fun pairing to think about, especially when you get into the generational thing and subliminal Dick/Roy. Granted, I'm not much of an m/m shipper, but there are some pairings I like there. By the way, the Terry McGinnis that appears here is not the Terry you know from Batman Beyond, but basically Damien Wayne with Terry's name attached to him since "Terry" would have been a nice homage to Batman Beyond.

Disclaimer: They belong to DC, not me.

Characters/pairings: Mar'i Grayson/Lian Harper, past Mar'i Grayson/Terry McGinnis, Dick Grayson/Roy Harper, and Dick Grayson/Kory Anders implied

Rating: PG-13

Mar’i couldn’t remember a time that she hadn’t loved Lian in some way. The red-haired girl was her best friend, her confidant, her other half. Lian had been there through it all, through Mar’i’s mother’s death, through her father’s distance from her, through the heartbreak of her relationship with one Terry McGinnis, and now . . .

Now they were curled up in each other’s arms, simply cuddling after a night of passion that opened both their eyes to what always existed between them.

“I love you,” Mar’i whispered to a sleeping Lian, who simply burrowed deeper into her embrace.

Lian had never had a sister. Not a biological one, anyway. Fortunately for her, Uncle Dick and Auntie Kory gave her a sister.

Then Auntie Kory died and Mar’i became sadder. Lian was there to share Mar’i’s tears, to tell Mar’i it’d be ok and that she could come live with her and her daddy if Mar’i’s daddy was being too mean.

She was there when that bastard Terry broke Mar’i’s heart and left her with the pieces.

Then that night happened and Mar’i became both sister and lover to her . . . and Lian realized her real feelings.

He knew he would be no good for her. He didn’t want to hurt her, but he knew that that was all he was good for: causing pain. His damned mother had seen to that.

But he knew someone who would be better for her than he ever could be. That someone had been a constant in Mar’i’s life for about as long as Mar’i had been alive. She had always been there for Mar’i through times good and bad and she would do anything for her.

In the end, he knew Lian Harper was the right choice for Mar’i.

He’d watched Mar’i and Lian grow up through the years and not without his share of concerns. As Lian grew older, she became more like her father. She shared his reckless and seemingly carefree attitude, not to mention his flirtatious tendencies.

That particularly worried him, because those were just a few among the various traits that had made him fall for her father once upon a time. And if he knew how much like her father Lian was, then he knew doubly well how much like him Mar’i was. He could only hope that they didn’t repeat their fathers’ mistakes.

Sometimes, it was hard to look at Mar’i and Lian and not see Dick and himself as they were when they were their daughters’ ages. Mar’i definitely had her father’s grace and agility and Lian had his unerring eye. Unfortunately, she also had his roving eye . . . and Mar’i had her father’s tendency to emotionally shut down.
Roy knew good and well that it was Dick’s emotional shutdown tendencies that had ultimately wrecked their relationship and Dick’s relationship with Mar’i. Remembering that made him watch Mar’i and Lian closely, and pray their relationship didn’t end the same way.
