Big news from SMAP?

Sep 01, 2008 11:01

Hey, a story from everybody's favorite Shukan Gendai, providers of This is Your Idol on Drugs.

We begin in the fall of 2008; yes, the future. Nakai was to star in a Monday/9pm drama on Fuji, but that time slot has been filled by Horikita Maki. Right after news of Maki's drama was released, SMAP announced their nation-wide tour - supposedly this was a rushed decision. Anyway, perhaps to focus on the tour, Nakai will not be doing a drama this fall.

Word has it this is going to be quite the loaded tour, and I'm not talking about the (super, modern, artistic) performances. Apparently, SMAP has a very important annoucement to make: next March they will be ceasing activities. They want their fans to hear the news from the group itself.
Unless some tabloid gets the news first and completely ruins the surprise.

They all have like a zillion jobs so maybe they've reached their limit. A person working for an advertisment firm said next year they'll no longer have contracts to do ads for the companies Otsuka Pharmaceutical, NTT, and ANA.

So we're supposed to believe their new album is their last and this is a farewell tour? Okay, sure. I can understand Nakai not doing a drama so he can spend his time working on the tour, but super popular SMAP calling it quits? Meh... I don't buy it. Still, life without SMAPxSMAP? A sad thought, indeed. Here's hoping the only big announcement is that Goro's getting married. Seriously, is that ever gonna happen? Jeezus.
