Blearily, Kenya blinked at the red digital numbers that flashed 4.48am at him. He hadn't slept all night, stomach twisting uncomfortably as he counted the minutes down until he had to go to the train station. Yuushi was coming to stay. Yuushi was going to come back and hang out and was going to steal Kura's attention and Kenya hated it. He tossed and turned on his bed a few times, finally ending up lying down, face buried into his pillow.

It didn't help that it was almost 100 degrees and mid-summer, his mood was even more agitated than normal, never mind that his cousin would be staying as well. They didn't even have a guest room either, so Yuushi would get to have his bed and he'd end up on the chair bed his mother had picked out for sleep overs and the like.

With another sigh he flopped onto his back, gazing at his iguana as it just stared at him. Damn thing. He loved it, but sometimes (like right now) it freaked him out. It was like it knew. Though, he supposed it had every reason to with how the poor animal had been stuck with him for god knows how many nights on his own.

That wasn't helping his thought process.

Giving up on ever achieving sleep, he slid off the bed and opened the curtains. It was already light out anyway. Sleepily, he rubbed at his eyes as he padded across to the bathroom to get ready.

--

8.27am found Kenya outside Osaka's main train station, phone pressed against his ear as he listened to Yuushi complain about how he didn't know where he was - but at least he was in the right station. For a tensai, he was pretty damn hopeless - even Zaizen was better than that. In fact, Kenya told him so and snorted as Yuushi continued to try and disagree.

"Yeah well, at least Hikaru gets on the right train all the time." He laughed, trying to squish the bees in his stomach that kept trying to fly out of his throat and choke him alive. He shouldn't be this nervous. He and Kura had been friends for years, BFF's even, so he didn't have anything to worry about.

Finally, Yuushi found the right platform before Kenya was tempted to strangle him to death. He'd only gotten into the Kansai region around twenty minutes ago (hey, those bullet trains were pretty speedy for what they were) and was already driving him up the wall. Annoying smug bastard of a cousin. Kenya kicked a stone onto the rail track, watching as it dropped between the two metal rails - it wasn't until after he'd kicked it that he'd realised how dangerous that could have been.

He clicked the phone shut when Yuushi said he was at the entrance (finally) and started to head in that direction. Upon sighting that familiar mop of blue hair, he punched his cousin in the arm, facing out towards the bus station they would need to go to to head back to his house. "Welcome back." The slow smirk Yuushi sent him made him shiver in all the wrong ways. His cousin was downright creepy.

--

Kenya yawned widely when he stepped back into his house thirty minutes later. He set Yuushi's luggage down by the door and strolled into the kitchen, nabbing a rice ball his mother had prepared off the counter before any of them could even blink.

"Kenya!" his mother snapped. "Those are for your father's lunch!" Kenya laughed faintly and shrugged.

"I didn't have breakfast." Kenya's mother 'tsk'd softly and shooed him away.

"Go get Yuu-chan a drink, he's travelled a long way this morning," she scolded him before moving to Yuushi and pinching his cheeks. Kenya only got even more annoyed when she treated him more like a son than himself. "I don't know where he gets it from," she carried on, sighing dramatically. "He's not like me or his father, only cares about himself and what he gets - not once has he thanked us for the work we do for him."

"Mom!" Really. Today and every day for the rest of the week was going to suck.

--

After lunch Yuushi asked Kenya's mother if she minded if they went out for a while as he wanted to visit some old friends. The part that Kenya had dreaded since 5pm last night when Kura texted him to ask when Yuushi would be dropping by. He was quiet the entire way (which was something in itself) and only spoke when Yuushi prodded at him.

"Kenya, dear," Yuushi drawled. "Why so pissy today then?" By the time they were at Kura's street Yuushi brought the topic he didn't want up, making him scowl.

"Don't call me that," he swatted at Yuushi's hand when the other went to prod his cheek, looking even more annoyed and agitated. "I just didn't sleep." At all. And he was damn tired but there was no way he would leave Yuushi alone with his best friend so his cousin could steal him away. It wasn't as if he didn't know that Yuushi was a womanizer, whatever the male chasing version of that was and loved legs more than anything else. The last time he'd peeked, Kura had fantastic legs and thus, was in danger.

Flushing faintly at the imagery Kenya shook his head when Yuushi asked him if he wanted to go back. Kenya knew that much at least. In fact, he forced a smile, trying to seem somewhat normal. "I'll be fine, it's just lack of sleep Yuushi."

"If you say so, dearest cousin." An elbow slammed into Yuushi's side.

--

Kura only took five minutes to get ready (Kenya had to wonder how long he'd been anticipating his cousin coming over, the thought only making the bees in his tummy grow more agitated) so they were out the door by 10am. Kura led them to the local park - the one with the biggest hill that Chitose often dragged them all to after practise so they could gaze at the clouds. The place where he and Hikaru would make daisy chains when no one was looking. Well, it was more Hikaru than himself, but the younger boy hated to admit it.

While he trailed behind them, Kenya had to wonder then if it would have been better for him to stay at home anyway. Seeing Yuushi hit on his best friend and long time crush made him feel even worse, enough for them both to turn around and stare at him. He flushed and waved it off, racing up the hill ahead of them with a soft yell of 'I'll race you!'. Not like either of them could win anyway.

What he did catch before he was out of earshot was Yuushi saying "just imagine how good those thighs would be in bed" before he was racing down the hill at the other side, crashing down onto the floor near Chitose. He needed some of that calm aura right then.

"S'up?" Chitose pointed up to a funny looking cloud and nudged Kenya to make him roll over. "Look, that one looks like my grandpa." Chitose sent him a lazy grin before he started to gaze up at the clouds again, and Kenya couldn't help but smile back. Things really were much easier in Chitose's world.

"Mind if I sleep on you?" Kenya yawned again now he was finally lying down, and when Chitose only shrugged he propped his head up on his friend's shoulder, letting his eyes shut. For a second time that day he was blessed with just catching something Yuushi said - "he told me he hasn't slept".

--

Thanks to Chitose acting as his personal teddy bear, Kenya managed a decent enough nap even if he was still tired. He was half asleep when his eyes opened, which was why it was more alarming when Chitose had somehow turned into Kura. His face grew hot and he gaped unhelpfully for a moment before he finally managed one word. "What?" he glanced up and down the hill, noting that the others had actually moved right down to the bottom.

"Yuushi said you hadn't slept." Kura's worried gaze made his stomach twist differently from before. It made him avert his eyes and try and hide his face as those bees buzzed instead, tickling his stomach unpleasantly. "Are you alright?"

"I-I'm fine," Kenya stuttered for a moment, failing when he tried to sit up, only to be pulled closer to Kura's chest.

"Shut up, Kenya. You know I know you only sleep on Chitose when something is bothering you. What is it?" If it wasn't for the fact that his friend was worried, Kenya would have made a dash for it by now. Instead, aware that the others were watching he buried his face in Kura's neck, trying to hide the bright blush on his cheeks.

"It's nothing important."

"Ken-chan~!" Yuushi called out from the bottom of the hill, one arm was hooked around Zaizen's shoulders who looked less than impressed. "You don't mind if we stay out a little longer do you? I'll call your mother for you!"

Seeing that, Kenya blinked before he gaped a little. Was... Yuushi just hitting on everyone.

But surely that meant...?

Turning towards his friend he frowned, hating that he was still blushing, but there was something he needed to know first. "Does that mean you two aren't...?" The bees were becoming almost two difficult to deal with.

Kura laughed out loud at both the look on Kenya's face and the obvious reason as to why he hadn't slept at all the night before. He actually thought he and Yuushi were dating or something? "Oh, Kenya."

Kenya's face dropped, anger soon replacing the sulky look he'd given Kura at first. "Shut up. It's not like he wasn't all over you." Another soft laugh followed that, even when two warm hands reached up, cupping Kenya's face.

"Idiot, it's pretty obvious he's more interested in Hikaru." Kura smiled brightly, "he actually came to look out for you, I guess it only backfired in the end, huh?" A bewildered look followed that comment, Kenya looking a little alarmed that Yuushi knew and he didn't know he knew and- then there were lips on his and he wasn't really thinking anymore.

Maybe lack of sleep was something to be thankful for sometimes?
