"Won't you save me, San Francisco?"

So. World Series 2012. Detroit Tigers (American League) vs. San Francisco Giants (National League).

Two games in to a potentially seven game series. The idea is, the team that wins four games wins the series.

First two games were played in San Francisco.

Game 1 was played on Wednesday, 24 October; the score was Tigers: 3 -- Giants: 8. (The Tigers were scoreless until, what? The sixth inning? Seventh?)

Game 2 was played last night, Thursday, 25 October; the score was Tigers: 0 -- Giants: 2. (The game was scoreless until the eighth inning, I believe.)

My youngest has been saying all season that the Tigers were going to win the World Series. He was (and mostly still is) so sure of it. Then again, he hasn't been alive long enough to see Detroit's professional sports teams go down in ignominious defeat time and time again -- or hear my father cuss and fume and throw stuff -- for as long as I have.

In the aftermath of Game 1, I helpfully informed my wee bairn, "You know, there's actually a song called 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco.'"

Wee Bairn replied, without missing a beat, "Yeah, and there's also a song called 'SHUT THE FUCK UP.'"

Ah, my wee little Sonny Boo-Boo. If only his grandpa had heard that salty riposte; it would've surely put the twinkle in his eyes and the steel-toed boots on his feet.

Hurry up and finish choking, Detroit. I'd like the house to quiet down to a dull roar for the run-up to Christmas.

sports, metro detroit, domestic bliss
