It finally cost over thirty dollars to fill the fuel tank of my car -- excuse me, my wife's car. (I haven't been able to afford a car of my own since my "don't laugh, it's paid for" Ford Taurus
bit the dust.)
I drive a Geo Metro, which is a variation of the "supermini" Suzuki Cultus marketed by GM (
thank you, Wikipedia); what was previously regarded with the level of derision accorded to the
AMC Pacer, the
Yugo and the
Trabant has become, thanks to the steadily rising petrol prices,
something of an objet d'estime.
Today (Tuesday, 1 July) was the first time that filling my (presumably 7.5 U.S. gallon; I don't trust the float in the tank, so I don't usually let it get that low before refueling) Geo Metro crossed the $30 threshold. Total price for 7.285 U.S. gallons of 87 octane gasoline at $4.259/gal? $31.03.
Yeah, yeah, I know: at this point most folks have deeply erotic fantasies about their fill-ups being in the thirty dollar range; but demmed if it doesn't smart for all of that.
