Our (in)curious leader.

The current issue of Vanity Fair (the October 2007 issue; No. 566) has an article by Todd S. Purdum ("Inside Bush's Bunker") that looks at -- duhhh -- the inner circle of the current administration in Washington and the innermost thoughts of the White House's current occupant in chief. Buried in the article -- on p. 390 -- is this disturbing anecdote:

"According to the reporter Ron Suskind, in August of 2001 a C.I.A. analyst was sent to the Bush ranch, in Texas, to brief the president about indications of an imminent threat from al-Qaeda. The president heard him out and then sent him packing with the words 'All right. You've covered your ass, now.'"

I'm assuming that this tidbit comes from Suskind's most recent book, The One Percent Doctrine: Deep Inside America's Pursuit of Its Enemies Since 9/11. Not sure how I managed to miss hearing about it during his book-flogging appearances on the NPR shows (On Point [28 June 2006], Here & Now [20 October 2006], Fresh Air [20 June 2006]) that I regularly listen to.

And now "Dubya" wants us to believe that he "owns" the so-called "War on Terror"?

Maaaaan. Piss on that noise.

politics, dubya, war on terror, 9/11, magazines
