Frosh/Soph + Steve

Friday was an ordinary day, except i went to fencing for the 1st time in around 3 weeks. Yesterday was frosh/soph, a day dominated by fencing and waiting. i woke up at 5:45 to get ready and em picked me up at 6:25 so we could be at wessex at 6:45. we got there like 10 minutes and were freaking out because no one was there. 10 minutes later the coaches were there and i was like yea.... good stuff. totals: 0 frosh epee, 6 soph epee, 1 frosh foil, 3 sophs foil, 4 frosh sabre, 3 soph sabre. we left at around 7:10 and got to morristown at 8:00. we set up our stuff in the epee gym in the corner for the next 1/2 hour then changed and walked around for a half hour before we all got nervous that we were going to be late and miss our cues or something because this was the first tournament for 11 of our 17 fencers, myself included. we finally found out soph epee and foil were going to be fencing at the same time in different gyms, so amanda was divided between the 3 foils, and the sabre fencers were distributed to the soph epees. em was my "bitch" but i would have done so much worse had she not been there. the systems kind of confusing, there were 83 soph epees so they broke them into groups of 6 per one strip, of which there were 12. you would fence everyone in your group once and your points and score on the strip would be calculated and go toward your ranking after prelims. i went 3 and 2, i won 5-1, 5-4, and 5-3. i lost 5-3, 5-3. in the match where i won 5-3, the last point i struck so hard that my blade was bent in 3 different directions! my calculated total put me in 29th, so i had a bye in the first round of direct elimination, where you fence the seeded person 3 times, the 1st person to 2 wins the match and they move onto the next round. i was seeded against number 36. i was the highest ranked soph epee from westex after prelims, and the only one to have a bye, even though candido and britt were veterans of the whole circuit they came in lower than me. everyone was AWED. no, not really, but its fun to say :-P candido eventually went to the 3rd round so she ended up in the top 32 and i probably fell slightly below 32 but at least i was there for a while, right? after prelims there was a 2 hour break while they did frosh epee and foil prelims, and started on frosh sabre prelims. i followed em for the 1st bout in her group, and then i got upset because her director sucked and she was totally shafted out of at least 2 bouts (quote dr. kopylov) and ended up 0-5, i felt so bad, she was crying. em was eventually seeded 78. she was the lowest ranked frosh sabre even though she had to remind all of the other frosh sabres that we had practice and all that, had they not known they probably wouldnt have been able to fence in the tourney. long and short of it i was exhausted by the time i fenced (not an excuse, i know) and lost 5-3, 5-3 to this beast of a girl from oak knoll. em won her first round against number 51 in 3 bouts. marietta won her first round, and sarah and dayamaii fenced each other 1st round of d.e. and sarah was knocked out. in the 2nd round they all lost: marietta to #6, dayamaii to #8, em to #16, but em got in 6 points so she was happy and i was happy for her :-) the one downside was all the breaks and downtime and waiting between/after bouts. that, and i didnt see steve all day. i called his house I DONT KNOW how many times, i really bet his mom thought i was obsessed with him or something. we spent like an hour at a clip on the phone, but since i was always needed for something else at least half of that conversation was saying "what?!" because other people were talking at the same time, or silence because i was hooking someone else up or answering their questions so i felt really bad. but we had made plans a while ago for at least me and him to get together today, so i was happy. we got home at 8:30

today was the guys turn at frosh/soph, corey was ranked 13/around 90 in foil, and adam agins was ranked 4th so kudos to them. corey was eliminated in the 2nd round though, but still, im INCREDIBLY happy for him. today i woke up early and i was just a total bitch because i got a total of around 10 hours of sleep over the past 2 days plus all the physical exhaustion of yesterday. i went to hebs and was all quiet/withdrawn/tired/other stuff and my class was pissing me off and they were being disrespectful even though it was mrs. harris's first day back since over a month ago because shes been really sick. but my mom ended up picking me up at 11:50 so i ended up not going to hebrew chorus. em had gone to the mall earlier that day, and she picked up a valentines day gift for steve for me: a pink t-shirt that says "tough guys wear pink" great, no? then steve and jon came over at 2 and em ended up not being able to. steve and jon stayed until around 6:30 and that was a party, jon was obsessed with my bros guitar and steve and i.... well, we werent. lol. tomorrows valentines day :-D should be a fun day, especially as we have a home fencing meet at 4, which means over an hour to kill before the match. cant wait :-)
