we buried great uncle sid today. he was a right bugger, but we loved him dearly. i didn't really see him that much over the last few years, but i used to visit him a lot when i was little and he was great fun...totally eccentric and full of beans and nothing would stop him from travalling the world with my great aunt mavis and getting up to mischief. he had time for everyone and no-one who met him forgot him.

the service was good, full of funny anecdotal stories of family holidays and him cheating at crazy golf and stealing the clubs so that he could play for free the next day. they played the blue danube on his way out of the church, a special song for him as he and mavis used to go ballroom dancing. it sounded really funny on the church organ, a bit like a fairground ride, which dad and i found most amusing and knew that he would too. i said they should have given him a little twirl before he went out the door! they also showed a video that had been put together of him frolicking and larking about on family holidays. he was in his 80's i'm sure and he lived every single second of his life to the full. seeing him messing around like that reminded me a bit of myself and i hope that my life is as rich as his was.

i will miss him, silly old bugger.

RIP uncle sid.
