Went to Oxon Hill Food Pantry Walkathon today

May 16, 2009 13:59

Raised money for the food pantry that my church has been supporting for years - the food pantry in Oxon Hill (serving Fort Washington & Temple Hills area also - an interfaith effort). A man there said he got the notice via Google Alerts that I posted in my other blog: Creating a Jubilee County for Prince George's Co.

I guess our local food pantries could have Cause pages on Facebook. I've never set up a Facebook Cause & would be willing to do that for the Oxon Hill Food Pantry and the Brandywine food pantry that's run by Community Support Systems if they wanted me to. If anyone from either of those organization sees this, you can email me at web[at]dmuuc.org changing "at" to @ in my email address & using Food Pantry in the subject line.

If anyone reading this knows about setting up Causes on Facebook, please post a comment and let me know. It seems a useful resource, though if an organization doesn't have a web site, a web site is more useful, though I don't develop them for free any more. One can always link from their site to the Facebook Cause, though, and hopefully Facebook Cause is free.

I do more community service work than paid work, but my community is important.
