I tried the Just Cause demo today, because it appeared on Steam, and I <3 Steam. I think I heard about this, but kind of ignored it because I don't really play many computer games these days.
It's actually kind of as cool as it sounds like. You're a swarthy guy in a South American country, overthrowing an evil regime, and stuff like that. It runs kind of like GTA with jungles, except you can do 'stunts', like climb out on top of your car/speedboat/helicopter and jump around, or deploy your magic ever-present paraglider. Which means you can do things like get bored of your current vehicle, drive it off a cliff, and glide down to your next objective.
"Don't mind me, señor, I'm just dropping in."
The reverse applies, so you can do assassination missions by paragliding in, dropping on top of your target's jeep, kicking him out, and swinging around to drive over him. If you feel like it. I've only played the demo, so it's hard to tell if the full game is as much fun as it seems like it might be, but I'm sorely tempted to buy it. The demo is time limited (in game, you have to be done by sunset). There isn't much time to just wander around making Bond-esque quips at your computer and base jumping off cliffs with a motor cycle. I did find that every time I decided to try the crazy option, the mission got easier. Climb out of boat, steal jeep, approach with caution? No! Ramp boat over sandbar, jump out and glide in shooting wildly! Also, in a shock development, I can actually drive the vehicles half way decently. GTA for me was mostly about yelling "I'm a really good driver!" as I ploughed into oncoming traffic, or accidentally ramped myself into the sea.
Anyway. It might get old fast, but for 25 euro, I think it's worth the risk.
