I don't know what it is about the first of the month that inspires journal entries. I think it's just that is represents the possibility of a new and exciting chapter in my life that wakes me from my usual depressingly apathetic mindset and inspires me to share my soul

oh, and i know exactly what you mean about the whole "thinking like the author" thing. I do that whenever i read a book! i just got really freaked out after reading the color purple because i started talking like Celie, which sounds absolutely nothing like me. hmmm......
