it's been awhile/TASP deja vu

Hey everybody,

Since Mariam restarted the trend of actually updating the livejournal (a trend I hope will continue), I though I'd add something that happened today that reminded me of TASP.

We're reading Kafka in history (the class is "20th Century Europe" and does a lot of philosophy and literature as well), and today we were discussing the transformation in "The Metamorphosis." For those of you who haven't read it, the first line is: "As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect." The story follows from there.

Anyway, my teacher was talking about how Kafka is usually overanalyzed, and was giving us a bunch of interpretations of the transformation, including Freudian, religious, existentialist, etc. While we were going over possible religious meanings, he said,

"In some senses, Samsa could be seen as a Christ-like figure."

And that's my story for the day.

Love,
Emma

PS: Amartya--I'm going to be in Houston next week.
PPS: Elliot--is Camus an existentialist?
PPPS: Wally--stop poking me.
