Thinking about characters today

1. I take a perverse pleasure in having characters who speak somehow other than plainly. Especially people with large vocabularies or courtly fancies. People who talk in riddles, or by some other design that is normal/human. But this morning, especially those people with vocabularies that mean I can actually use mine ( Read more... )

I think my thing tends towards damaged characters and loners.

Also, you NEED to come to the UK and visit Hampton Court Palace.

I went there on Thursday and it was highly made of win. It was built by Thomas Wosley and then Henry VIII kind of nabbed it and this year for the 500th Anniversary of Henry's birth they've been re-enacting his last marriage every day and really pulled out the stops on the whole period involving him at the Palace.

AND THEN, they also slip in a bit of Stuart history from when William and Mary remodelled and then some later Georgian stuff and you get to see just... how people lived there, the royalty and the servants and it's WAY COOL and something I think you would really like.

So you need to get yourself over here!!! :D

Plus I went to this discussion in the evening there about how the media has shaped our view of Henry VIII and that was seriously interesting too. :)

Plus with the added bonus of the discussion being chaired by the handsomest tv historian like... ever, Dan Snow.

Bizarrely, he doesn't photograph well. But cute + smart = omg
