I finally got my course registration all sorted out, so now I'm wondering if anyone's taken any of these classes and can give me a heads up on what to expect

Sorry I can't help with course details as I didn't take any of those but you will have to drop one of the spring courses. You'll be fine for fall but you need special permission to take more than five courses a semester, and I wouldn't recommend that anyone do it. Good luck with your pruning!
I know I need to drop something, I'm just totally stuck on what to let go of. :( I guess the plus side of not getting into Gen Linguistics I would be that I would easily choose Gen Linguistics II to drop.
As far as i know you only need special permission to take 7. It often happens that someone needs to take six courses when a couple of courses they need are only available in one semester. However, it could be different at UTSC.
I should add, i have taken six courses in a semester before, and this year i am signed up for 6 each semester (so 12 total) but i am planning on dropping at least one half course. I didn't require any special permission.
I'm at St. George so i'm not sure if it's exactly the same, but if you're even slightly considering majoring or minoring in LIN you should wait to see if you get into Gen Lin I. I'm not sure i understand you though, if you don't get into I you're going to drop II?
Oh, never mind. I see, it's set up way differently. At St. George we have one full-year intro course to LIN, and we also have a 200-level introductory course but majors and minors are not allowed to take it as it is too simple/general.
Sorry, I can't help either. The only UTSC courses I've taken are PHLB03 "Philosophy of Art" with Sedivy (I really liked her, the only thing was that she speaks softly sometimes so you need to sit in the first couple rows). There were a lot of non-philosophy majors in the class, and she was quite aware of making sure everything was explained sufficiently so everyone could understand. I also took PHLC03 "Topics in Philosophy of Art" with Stokes (he's not bad either) which was even more interesting because his area of interest is quite different from Sedivy's.
If you're jumping from college to university I would probably take the regular courseload. Some people who were in my college classes said university was well over twice the workload that college is. You don't want to over-whelm yourself in the first year.
I have taken both SOCA01 and ENGA11. They are very straightforward and easy courses as long as you keep up with the readings. A11 you will likely have with professor Leonard and he's an awesome prof. Good luck!

I can't take 2 unless I've already taken 1 (prereq). So if I don't get into it, I have to drop part 2. :(
