My school might be going on strike - and by "might be" I mean "probably is".  I'm so not impressed.  It took me long enough to drag my ass back to school after a year off, and I have trouble staying focused as it is.  If they strike, not only will our work for the rest of the semester (whenever they come back to work) be more intense to make up for lost time, but also I'll have lost my routine and be back in the habit of not going to school again.  I'm only just not got in the swing of things again after Christmas break.  So here's my plea before the last vote - teachers, I get that you deserve more.  You work hard.  We students are a handful.  But despite being a handful, you teach FOR the students.  It's why you do what you do.  So think of us when you vote.

Here's the latest communique in any case:

February 2, 2010
Dear Algonquin Students,
As you may have heard, the union representing full‐time college faculty has set a strike date of
February 11, 2010. The bargaining team representing the management of Ontario’s 24
community colleges has requested that the faculty have an opportunity to vote on the colleges’
final offer in advance of this deadline.
If faculty members vote to accept the latest offer, a collective agreement will be reached and a
strike will be averted. If faculty members choose not to accept the new contract a strike is
scheduled to begin on February 11, 2010.
In the meantime, all classes and activities will continue as scheduled. We still remain optimistic
that these issues will be resolved in advance of the February 11 deadline.
If there is a strike, colleges will develop plans to help students complete their studies and not
lose the term. We will need to be creative and flexible, depending on the length of a work
stoppage. Please rest assured that we will continue to do everything in our power to make this
semester as positive as possible.
Be sure to continue to watch your inbox and the College Student Portal for further
announcements.
Should you have any specific questions please email them to: questions@algonquincollege.com
Sincerely,
Robert C. Gillett
President
