Dear NTC,
The following notice had appeared on my internet browser when I returned home from class today:
Warning:
*We have detected multiple computers connected to your account.*
Your current IP address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
NTC’s Internet service is marketed and offered solely for the personal use of each individual customer. Customers having more than one computer are allowed to use devices to connect to our network for their personal use only. Customers may not share their service with other individuals. NTC's Internet service is not marketed or priced on a per apartment basis to be shared by multiple tenants of that apartment. Our policy on the provisioning of Internet service to our customers can be found in our Terms of Service under the heading Network Services. Our Terms of Service can be found on our website at
http://www.ntc-com.com. Through normal network monitoring we have determined that you currently have multiple connections attached to your individual username. There are a few possibilities as to how this can occur:
* You are currently using an unsecured wireless router, where additional users are connecting without your knowledge.
* You are willfully violating our Terms of Service by allowing others to connect and use our service under your username through a router.
As a step to protect our network and your connection we ask that if you are using a wireless router to please secure it (for information on securing your router please contact the router's manufacturer).
If you are allowing other users to access the internet via your username, please notify them to cease this activity. Failure to take immediate action to stop multiple users may result in a temporary loss of internet service. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, feel free to contact us at the number below.
I was not home when this notice came up on my PC, and although I do run a wireless router for my own convenience, it is 128-bit WEP encrypted, and I am the only one with the password. We did experience a power failure earlier today, but there is no possible way that someone else was using my internet, nor was I "willfully violating" the terms of service. Please check your equipment - something may have happened during today's storm that caused it to give me this message.
Sincerely
Jessica Loyd
