Character Info
Name: Sync
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Age: 14
Disease/Abilities/Condition: Sync has special abilities that involve a mysterious earth force called fonons originating from a secretive religious organization. He is quick on his feet and has quite flashy and powerful attacks that are quite fast as well. His move set involves special glyphs and seals that help him formulate his attack.
Staff Position: Giovanni saw that Sync's excellent stealth skills would prove more than useful to him so Sync works under Giovanni as a spy ((to keep watch on the patients)), an information collector and an assassin ((for when patients are no longer needed and/or when they need to be disposed of)).
Description: Sync is very lean with unkempt green hair and rather bold green eyes that are full of energy and a mixture of hate and misery. He is often seen wearing a mask to hide his face ((especially when on assassin jobs)) as he hates who he is and would rather nobody sees his true self ((he will wear his mask more and more as his memory slowly recovers and he starts hating to see his reflection in the mirror and elsewhere plus not wanting others to see him. when Ion shows up, Sync will hate having someone around who looks just like him)). Personality: Sync has a two-sided personality: While he has a tendency to keep his cool, he is also a very aggressive fighter who takes no prisoners under any circumstances. Tough on the outside, Sync actually carries a lot of pain on the inside, seeing himself as trash that was thrown out into the street with no purpose. Working under Giovanni, while he may detest the man, Sync obeys him in order to feel like he has meaning to his life, even though he lost his memory when he came to the island. Sync is also quite cocky and confident, and even a little showy when it comes to his ability ((especially once he starts to get his memory back after he begins to remember his bitter feelings from his past, which makes him more aggressive, stronger and even more violent)). Haunted by his past, Sync is driven heavily by his emotion and he does all he can to keep himself in check. He has a conflicting personality of one side being calm, intelligent and strategic and one side being unpredictable, emotional and impulsive.
Sync doesn't like to waste time and is very calculative. He always prefers to do things that involve his own interests and anything else is pointless. It is rare to see him get lose his temper at people just for being annoying and is pretty good at ignoring those kinds of people so he can just carry on with whatever his objectives are. Sync loves to feel superior to everyone else and that is when he is at his happiest, but also most prone to getting himself into bad situations. This also gives him a level of competitiveness when it comes to the few things he values, depending on the situation. Overall, he prefers to stay back in the shadows and observe what's happening around him in order to better read people and plan his next move more easily. It is also the best way to stay out of trouble. Sync is also very manipulative and even possesses an ability that allows him to partially control other people. This ability is one he had decided to keep secret from Giovanni and the other staff as it may come in handy later on if nobody else is aware of it. Even after he lost his memory, Sync's personality stayed in-tact and didn't say anything he felt he didn't have to say.
While he may not be a team player, it isn't impossible to earn his trust and depending on the person, he can make an excellent teammate and strong ally.
In the end, Sync is not one to be completely honest with himself, even when he says he is 100% decided.

Sync was not chosen for that special role, losing out to his youngest sibling, Ion, and easily became jealous of the decision. Sync was far more talented at strategy than Ion but his actual abilities lacked in the power department. Even so, Ion was a kind and caring brother and Sync managed to supress his envy and bitterness for quite a while in the form of the usual sibling rivalry. At least, until that fateful day when Sync and his brothers were about eight years in age.
An opposing religious terrorist group blindsided the group Sync was born into and with little time for action, they had to make sure the chosen child, Ion, was able to escape, so his brothers were used as a decoy in order to buy the rest of his people, and Ion, time to get away. All of Ion's brothers were left behind to fool the enemy into thinking they had all of the successors to their rival group lined up and ready to be killed. Without any warning, abandoned and alone with his brothers, Sync was taken away from his home, without Ion, and lead to an active volcano, Mt Zaleho, where they would be shoved off the edge of the volcanic crater and into a grand, churning lava lake. Sync was the last to go and watched all his other brothers fall to their fiery deaths. In that brief time of observing his brothers' fates, Sync was able to calculate his escape and carry it out perfectly to get away. He then ran off, angry that his own people would betray him and leave him to die in the place of his brother. It was then that his undying hatred towards Ion would be born and despite his age, he ran off to a separate religious rival as a masked strategist and assassin to work in order to avenge those that had decided the fate of his own life so easily.
Sync struggled and worked hard to improve his own abilities in order to accomplish his goals, but just training wasn't enough and eventually he met a man who knew a lot about glyphs that would significantly amplify the power of his techniques. The man then decided to help him in exchange for temporarily working for him a little while. Sync agreed, wanting to do anything to take out his anger on his people, and the man put a glyph on Sync's chest and that proved to have instantaneous results. For the next several years, Sync perfected his artes and was on the constant lookout for any hints of Ion's whereabouts.
When Sync was twelve, he finally encountered his quarry and the built-up emotion of hatred had overflowed his heart as soon as he caught sight of him to the point of where it clouded his judgement of the situation. Even though he had his attack and strategy through as thoroughly as any of his previous plans, he got reckless due to his hatred and messed up, resulting in him falling into a deep ravine where he hit his head and was knocked unconscious. Ion saw the fall and when he went over to see where his brother had fallen, but he couldn't see him and then believed Sync to be dead.

On Utopia, Sync carried out every task he was given and never failed to complete his objectives given to him by Giovanni. Deep inside himself, Sync felt a need to have a purpose, even when he was treated poorly and wasn't allowed to stick up for himself. Even though he was staying occupied by working as a spy and an assassin, he always felt as if his greater purpose was something he should know, yet couldn't remember. He had no memory of his past and wished he could figure it out in order to know for sure what his value was to this world. As time went on and his sleep was haunted by bizarre, incomprehensible dreams, his anger and bitterness from a mysterious unknown source in his past continued to fester. He didn't know who he hated, or why, but he blocked out questioning it from his mind in order to continue work under Giovanni. Perhaps, with time, he would remember, and free himself by remembering his old goal and carrying it out. Until then, he would have to act as an empty shell of a servant to Giovanni... or would he?
As a double agent, Sync lived maskless among the unsuspecting patients and staff of Utopia, pretending to help out with the island's mail service and going to their school to continue observing the movements and whereabouts of all the people of the island without suspicion. At night, he wore a mask as he worked as a spy and assassin for Giovanni, killing patients who were no longer desired, thought to be conspiring against Utopia or had been found to have learned too much about what they shouldn't know. The job was like therapy to Sync as he was allowed to take his unexplained anger out on his victims without mercy.
When he wasn't working, Sync resided in the abandoned lighthouse on the southwest corner of Utopia. The roads to the lighthouse were completely overgrown from the jungle, making it unrecognizeable. It was the perfect place for him to live in secrecy and he could take his time cleaning his hands and clothes of the blood of his victims. He never got any visitors but he didn't mind that at all. A life of solitude was the best option for a person of his profession. To interact with the general population too much would be a huge waste of time. Getting attached to people would only make it that much harder to kill them when it was their turn to die.

bloodysnowabumi old RP log of mine: http://community.livejournal.com/konohagakuen/26281.html#cutid1
Journal Sample: I had another strange dream last night where there were others who looked just like me and Ion. We were sitting around in a room with ragged old clothing, looking fearful. The lighting was like that of fire and I could hear a rumbling sound from beyond and the ground shook from time to time. There were also men there dressed in familiar clothing... but I don't know what was so familiar about them! The next thing I know, we are being lead down a hall and the noises keep getting louder and louder. The next thing I notice is that all the look-alikes before me stop at the edge of a cliff and then shoved over the edge. I heard their screaming and the fear well up inside me. I know what's going to happen... I can already tell...
Soon it is my turn and I step up to the edge of the cliff. There, a blast of hot air comes up from below and I can feel the heat dry out my face. Far below, I look down and see the churning mass of molten rock and on its surface I could see the craters on the lava lake's surface where my comrades had fallen to their deaths.
A man behind me gets ready to push me off as well, but I don't want my life to be so meaningless and to just end right there...! I still had something I must do.

Sync knew he had to be extremely careful with this one since everything was so calm, so he inched slowly towards the window that would be the entryway to his quarry's room where, hopefully, he would be fast asleep and would be dreaming of things that were far from his reality.
Upon arrival to the window, Sync made sure to carefully lift the glass up in a way that it wouldn't make a sound and just far enough for him to slip his slender body through. He wasn't against breaking the glass to get in, but on such a still night, that just simply wasn't an option. Inside the dark apartment, Sync looked around from under his mask to find his target as quickly as possible. These rooms weren't large, but sometimes the patients would move things around, such as their bed and other furniture, which occassionally caused a hassle for Sync. One time, a target who suffered from paranoia arranged his room so that his bed was in the middle and surrounded himself with all the other furniture. On that night, Sync accidentally knocked something over that was on his desk and awoke the man. The man screamed and Sync had to kill him as fast as possible and escape as fast as possible before any of the neighbors knew. Ever since, the memory has stuck in Sync's mind of where he had failed to keep himself concealed by the dark of night.
This room, however, was much more organized, and the bed was right where it was supposed to be. Underneath the blankets, Sync could make out the sleeping form of his target. He smiled cleverly to himself, seeing that this would be a very easy one to take care of. He casually stepped forward and walked towards the bed, then raised his hand to prepare a simple attack, but then paused when he noticed the sleeping form was not breathing. With some surprise, he looked around the room and guessed that the body underneath was just a fake made of bundled blankets and pillows.
A slight creak of the wooden floor caught Sync's immediate attention and he looked in the direction of the half-opened closet. Sure enough, his night eyes cause sight of movement from within. Sync rushed over to the closet and opened the door wide open where he saw a pathetic, quivering form of a teenager not much older than he was.
"I heard that there is a murderer randomly killing people at night...!" the boy's eyes were wet with tears of fear and his body shook as he clung to a long pole. "I-I had a feeling that you would come for me tonight...!"
Sync looked down at him, perplexed by the boy's words, but then just decided his strange behavior was likely the result of some mental disorder.
"I could feel your pain...! A-and your hatred...! It w-was c-coming for m-m-m-meeee...!" The boy's expression changed from fear to something truly psychotic, "I won't let you get me, too!!!" he screamed.
Sync lifted a hand to prepare a quick attack to stop this durranged boy from making any more of a racket with his disturbing words and useless screaming, but before he could make a move, the boy held the pole out before him and then pointed it at his own head. In a split moment, the boy smashed his head down onto the pointed tip of the pole, right between the eyes, which still were wide open. Blood splattered all over the closet and onto Sync, who leapt backwards, startled by the suicide of his target; it was definitely a first. The body of the boy didn't even tip over and sat, leaned over onto the pole, in a disturbingly surreal way.
With no further business here, Sync felt a little disturbed but then blocked that emotion from his mind. It doesn't matter. This boy's life was meaningless garbage anyways. Sync swiftly headed back to the window from where he had come and vanished into the darkness of the night.
"Your... hatred... is... your... pain..." the words breathlessly escaped the mouth of the corpse of the boy with the dead, unblinking eyes.
