My advisor sent out an email today about the Women's Studies Writing Contest, requesting submissions. She concluded it with the following statement:
please, please, skip to the writing loo my darlin' young ones... (think that's called a mixed music-phor)
Webster's online dictionary defines "loo": Chiefly British: Toilet
Where is this 'Writing Loo' and how do I get there? Do they provide the paper, or do I need to bring my own? May I walk to the Writing Loo, or is skipping a prerequisite? Moreover, does practicing the craft whilst on the throne improve the quality of one's work, or is it something like studying in a place like starbucks (which, while not necessarily capable of making one more of an intellectual, has the ambiance to potentially make them feel smarter.)
Granted, given some of the writing I've encountered in the department, I can see the correlation between the act or writing and other functions one might perform in the Writing Loo.
