Today was quite adventurous.
Tristan's parents came to help her move out, and definitely bought us both lunch at Mariahs. It was nothing short of wonderful.
After moving her earthly posessions, we went pet-store hopping. One such store has a large macaw named Pesky, an enormous blue and gold bird that I've admired everytime we've been in there. On this trip he was sitting outside his cage, right next to the signs which proclaimed him as being "not for sale", and prone to biting.
I stood by the cage and spoke to him, and he proceeded to skitter across the top bars toward me. Not entirely sure what to do, I extended my arm, and sure enough, he climbed on. A few seconds later, my brain caught up to me, and I realized that I had eight pounds of parrot on my arm, complete with talons and an ungodly strong beak.
Tristan described the look on my face as being "horrified." Truth be told, I just wasn't sure what to do with the thing. So I looked at her and requested that she ask the employees what you do when the parrot decides to mount you.
She laughed hysterically as she ran away, and I turned to look at Pesky, who was currently attempting to chew on the sleeve of my shirt. He started to climb back onto the cage, but rather than let him go, I stroked his back and he decided he liked it better where he was.
The pet-shop guy showed up a few seconds later, and crooned to Pesky as he lifted the bird from my arm and set him back on top of the cage.
I WAS ENAMORED. I WANT A MACAW.
At any rate, from there it was a trip to the park to try to feed some very lethargic geese, a pilgrimage to Barnes and Noble where Tristan read up on how to care for cats and how to detail cars. I, on the other hand, read up on... you guessed it... caring for parrots.
This culminated with a trip to Bowling Green's riverwalk, where I had an exchange of words with a disturbing little creature with a penchant for lewd comments and a grand total of four teeth. All in all, I'd consider Pesky better company.
But yeah, that was today. Next week: finals. And a sojourn to a small piece of Australia in the middle of Kentucky....
