A Map A Session - Part 4 to Part 8

Mar 02, 2010 11:43

It's been a long time since I blogged about my a-map-a-session program, which doesn't mean I haven't been following it. Not all the maps are fully finished or very new, but I still should show them off...

Part 4

Well... what can I say? I didn't have much time for preparing that session. This is the extend of maps and notes I had for the game: some scribbles in my notebook. You can see why I usually prefer CC3 for my mapping.

As for the session, the characters had to get the Child of Darkness out of that castles while it was under siege. They managed to do that, killed the castle's lord in the process and caused an earthquake afterwards that pretty much levelled the structure.

Part 5

Just a very quick area map of a mountain-top city of the Avik (a bird people on Jhendor). It doesn't quite do justice what I had in mind. The sketch does it better:

The heroes flew there on the summoned spirits of the summer winds (in the shape of horses) to find the Child of Air. Yes, this campaign is epic.

Part 6

This map is incomplete, as it was a bit over-ambitious for my purposes (we don't play with miniatures). In addition, the interior of the temple didn't really play an important part in the game. The Spire of Air, a tiny platform hundreds of feet above the ground without any kind of railing, was much more important. The high point of the evening was a character jumping of that platform at the urging of the high priestess ("Trust the gods"!). She had wings - he didn't.

Part 7

This is an overview city map based on the Annual Fantasy City style. Tes'ririk, capital of the Zs'kar empire and one of the largest cities on Jhendor, was the next stop on the heroes' journey. They were now looking for the Child of Water, which featured prominently in the very first campaign on Jhendor.

Part 8

The next session had to do with a scribbled map again, done on 8cm x 8cm in my notebook. The mountain retreat of the R'lamar family - beside a glacier lake - was the prison for both to the Child of Water and a friend of the heroes. An over-enthusiastic response of the Children of Earth and Fire (at the prompting of one of the heroes) resulted in the eruption of a nearby volcano, destroying the landscape for miles around.
