Comic Reviews - Miah's Comics Edition

Legion of Monsters 1 - Elsa Bloodstone has to team up with the newly created monster police force hunting down whatever is liquefying monster brains. Funny and action packed. Bloodstone keeps the voice Ellis gave her during NextWAVE and it seems to work without getting cheesy. Fun series. Hope Miah can hunt down the other issues.

The Cape 3 - "Cape" goes and kills his mother by throwing a chainsaw at an airplane, taking out everyone on board the plane at the same time. Then there's some back story about him and his family growing up. The awful parts of the story are escalating nicely, but I didn't get the emotional release that the previous issues had.

Punisher 7 - The police are going over the aftermath at the ski resort, talking about what went down. Sets a nice tone, but I miss Punisher and that police woman.

Wolverine and the X-Men Alpha and Omega 1 - Quire gets pissed at Wolverine and sends his mind into an alternate reality (along with Armor). Interesting premise: I like mind games and alternate realities. I hope Wood can pull it off without it becoming boring or one note (not a Wood fan).

FF 13 - We follow Doom, alternate Reed ("Evil Dad"), and the children of the Future Foundation into the Reeds' dimension to fight celestials. The stuff between Val and her grandpa is a bit obtuse, but I like how everyone else's voices come through, with no one character coming off as a villain (even the alternate Reed has a redeeming moment).

Conan: Road of Kings 11 - A fun issue of Conan, he gets to town, gets into some fights, drinks and looks at women, and gets into more fights. It ends with him getting drug into another adventure that may or may not be as light hearted, but this issue was great.

Terror, Inc.: Apocalypse Soon tpb - Terror has to use his body swapping "powers" to take out an international super virus threat that relates to the guy who spread the Black Plague who Terror faced centuries ago. The relationship between Terror and Mrs. *mumble mumble* is hilarious. The action is pretty good. I'm not a big fan of how the deaths of tens of thousands is treated in an off hand way, only being brought up when we need a reminder of the stakes. Also, the virus does different things based on story needs (killing in seconds or killing in weeks? Being super contagious, but contained?). Other that that annoyance, it was an entertaining read.

X-Men: Angel - Revelations tpb - This follows Angel's time at a prep school when his wings start sprouting and a religious killer uses a psychic mutant to help him kill all the mutants that he can. I liked the exploration of Angel's psyche and how he comes to deal with his mutation. The art is exaggerated and stretched, but I like that, too. Two super minor complaints; Angel's friend being gay is kinda brought up awkwardly and then never comes to bare on anything and I don't believe his nemesis and ex-girlfriend would stay together in the end.

Clumsy tpb - A diary comic following the start and end of a relationship written by the guy. It was interesting to read, but I don't really get why I should care about these two characters/people. The guy is obviously needy and only happy when the girl is doting on him. The girl doesn't seem to have much personality other than finding what the guy does as cute. It seems like the only times these two are happy is when they're in bed together. Looking at the map on the back cover, the relationship was long distance and that makes some of their reactions to each other more reasonable. It also shows that they were together only a handful of times, so it explains why there doesn't seem to be a deeper connection between the two. I wish this came through more in the course of the story. I don't know, I'm just not too invested in the two (and don't see why I should be) and that lessens the impact of the story to me.
