Fast Comic Reviews

Doing this quick today.

Avengers: Infinity Quest #1 - Someone's getting the infinity gems (picking up from The Illuminati mini-series) and is going to fuck shit up. Red Hulk is even scared (when did he become good with The Avengers?). Fun story. Immediately ordered the next three issues.

Batman Incorporated #6 - Batman's creating his own mythos and beating up people in the process (Joe Average and the Average Joes is a fun villain group). He's getting all of Batman, Inc, plus the other bats and the Outsiders) all together. There's been a lot of jump cuts in the story to keep it a mystery, which was annoying.

The Boys #54 and #55 - This finishes the history of "powers" from WWII until the present and explains how The Boys started and how Butcher joined. I really liked the mixing of real world events with The Boys universe, even commenting on world (especially American) politics in a subtle way. On a whole, though, a little chatty.

Hero Comics one-shot - A bunch of stories by well known creators. The art's usually great, but the stories are average on a whole. There's a nice one about various popular directors making a movie about Samson (I would watch one made by Bruckheimer).

Heroes For Hire #6-#8 - This series is getting back on track, with Misty, Paladin, and Spider-Man taking out a small crime ring while working on the bigger picture of getting Heroes for Hire back its good reputation.

The Stand: No Man's Land #4and #5 - Mother Abigail is back, Harold and Nadine have killed a few people with their bomb, and four men are going to meet Randall Flag in Vegas. I like this part of the story best, so I'm excited for it to come, but it wasn't a lot of story for taking up two issues.

Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde HC vol. 03 - This volume is only one story about a hunchback who falls in love with a princess, only to see his own reflection, realize she was laughing at him instead of with him, and falling into despair. Good story, great art, but I'm confused on what the moral of the tale is.

Love and Rockets: New Stories #2 - The Locas story continues the superhero theme from the last issue (I didn't realize it wasn't over) with some great over-the-top action and a weird ending ("it" all took place in a comic book, but I'm not sure if it meant the superhero stuff or Maggie's role in it). Gilbert's stories were just weird and mostly silent.

Okay, time to put this pile of books away.
