weekend

Hey, an actual blog post from me:

I went up to Chicago this weekend even though I had no plans on doing so. Turned out Lucero was playing at a festival in Chicago on Saturday and I wanted to see them.

I drove up Friday after work just behind a huge storm that hit the Chicago-land area. I didn't experience any of that until I got off the interstate. The second light I passed, at a major intersection, was down. So were the majority of stop lights and all the street lights in Northlake. There was tons of trees and branches down. I got stuck at a malfuctioning light just before getting home and I experienced a bit of rain at that point. Even on Sunday a significant portion of lights on North Ave were down, which would become a PITA if not fixed by Monday.

So, Saturday I got up, got yelled at by Mom for something or other, rode my bicycle, took the carbs off my motorcycle, and then went by Dan's. We had dinner and some beers at Pete's, and went to see Lucero. They were the last band at an outdoor taste/fest (I forget which one). Good show, though I missed my favorite song while waiting in line for $5 Miller Lites (ugh). After the show we stopped at Cobra Lounge, had some PBRs, and shook hands with the lead singer of Lucero, which was cool.

Back at Dan's, we had our usual long conversation about comics and I went home with his copy of the Joe Casey's WildCATS run, which I'm looking forward to.

Sunday I woke extra early 'cause I was hung over and it was hot. I tried sleeping in the basement, but the folks also got up early to go to church. Eventually I fell asleep for a few minutes before having to get up and go to church myself (where I had Star Trek v. Star Wars explained to me by the priest). When I got home (still hung over and now sleep deprived), I got to grilling some prok chops for everyone for Father's Day. Casey, Stella, Helen, and the girls came over for a bit before going their separate ways. I took some time to wash my car while everyone else went to a wake for a family member I don't remember (much to everyone's annoyance). Took the dog for a walk, had dinner with L, and finally was able to get an hour's nap in before driving back to Peoria.
