Springfield, Springfield, It's a Hell of a Town...

May 10, 2008 17:59

So I just got back from a ride down to Springfield. Man, I'm tired. Also, the cool air gave me a bit of a headache. Ugh.

All told, I did about 170 miles in 4.5 hours or so.

Before I left, I wrote down my planned directions on my poor-man's GPS setup.

I've done this before, but taped the directions to my tank. Decided to use the tank bag this time. They lasted a whole 1/4 mile before the wind took them off and I was flying blind, as it were.

I went down US-24, crossed the river at Havana, then followed US-97 into Springfield.

Wasn't too bad, but I was getting a cross wind for a while. Spent half my time leaning to the left so I could go straight.

I stopped by the Capital:

and the Old Capital:

I also took the required pic of my bike:

I also got royally lost looking for my road out of town. Eventually, I found it and I stopped for food/fuel. A&W burgers are pretty tasty, but small.

I took US-29 straight north on the way back.

This went way faster. I had less cross wind to deal with and spent most of my time doing 75-80 mph.
