Weekend. Comics.

I had a really nice weekend. I took my bike up to Chicago on Friday with a thoroughly enjoyable ride. I took some back roads. I took some interstates. I stopped for lunch. I rode fast and took my time and arrived relaxed and not tired at all.

Sarah and I hung out Friday, then I did family stuff on Saturday. I watched the UFC fight Saturday night and continue to be mystified by the popularity of that sport. Saturday everybody took off for various places. Sarah stopped by for a couple hours before I left and we had a really nice Sunday afternoon together. She had to get a hair cut and I had to jet, so it ended too soon. I took the bike back home by riding the super-slab at way-too-fast mph and got home in good time. It wasn't enjoyable, but it wasn't too bad.

Since the accident a week and a half ago, I've put over 400 miles on my bike. I'm hoping to do another 100 this week, then maybe 100 over the weekend. I don't know why, but I have to urge to rack up the miles before fall gets here.

I've been getting a lot of independent comics in the last week. Super Stupor came on Wednesday. It's based off R.K. Milholland's excellent webcomic. Pixu showed up at my parent's house sometime late last week. It's a limited run print of Gabriel Bã, Fãbio Moon, and others horror comic. It's...weird. Today I got the second Templar, Arizona volume in the mail. It's a great webcomic, but it reads much better in print. The story unfolds slowly and reading three pages a week (plus delays of the latest chapter) means you forget a lot of the details. You can read the whole thing online. I should be getting the Rice Boy collection this week, which is like a psychedelic Lord of the Rings. The story is over, now, but the author is writing a B&W prequel that is off to a good start.

minus finished a few months ago. I guess the guy can't find a publisher that is willing to put it out in the quality it deserves and won't recoup the costs self-publishing it. It's a shame as it's one of the best things I've ever read and it deserves an oversized hardcover treatment. I've got some big prints on my wall and the images on the web do not do the comic justice.

I'm also getting a Pictures For Sad Children poster in the mail (this week?). It's the complete opposite of minus with simple line art instead of lush paintings, but its melancholy and dark humor have kept me laughing for months. I have no idea what I'm going to do with the poster, but I felt the need to give something to Campbell for all the entertainment he's given me.

In conclusion, I'm a big nerd.
