I have been reading a lot of Customers_Suck, and Bad_service recently, and am not sure where this really falls, so I’ll post it here. It’s one of my favorite work related stories that I told recently, and I thought I'd share it here ( Read more... )

That, my friend, is a great story. God bless that woman for holding the punchline until the end, too. You should have congratulated her on her fine comic timing.

Thanks, I think so too. It was quite a shock for us because it was never something we expected to hear while on a job. If I were in a sitcom, yes, but not in real life.

Hey thanks. I don't do it often, but I try to pack those I do post with a bit of a bang. I may post a few of my other repo stories in the not too distant future. The job was totally worth it for the handful of stories I got out of it.

You know, one of the problems I face in my job is that I can, if I desire, pretty much play "The god of electricity" if a customer gets huffy or worse, and I can do so without much retribution so long as I have a good reason to withhold service. If they have a risky history with us, I reserve the right to do nothing until all accounts are settled.

Yeah, we didn't really have that power, but God help you if you ditched out and made our lives difficult.

Pretty much. I have had a few customers where I have had to fight to get things done, then sometimes they still think that we should do everything, so I will sit on jobs until I get my way, more or less. The reason is that I am not sending work to the field that a crew will look at and turn down when they could be doing something else somewhere else.

Well hopefully your job didn't have the boss asking you to kick in air conditioning units while the tenants weren't home so you could get your stuff back (just so you know I never did, but I was asked a couple of times).

If I kicked a pole or an underground transformer, I am pretty sure I would lose the argument, especially if it is a larger pole or one of our huge 1000 kVa (or even larger) jobs. Talking thousands of pounds at that point.
