Yes, these two terms are supposed to go together but sometimes I wonder. Today when I was at the cafeteria waiting in a slow moving line... I ordered veggie nachoes. "No!" I get told by the guy working. "You did not just order nachoes when I've got a line this long." At this point I was tempted to become furious... I razzed a bit saying, "Hey! I'm CHOOSING to eat here, I'm paying CASH." (You know this never would have happened to a) an adult student b) a faculty member or c) a staff member at the college.
Anyway, he made the food, quickly... and despite lacking sour cream he did manage to skip olives so they tasted pretty good. It made me think though... I really miss the ACI food service staff. I don't miss a whole lot else about my former college, but that's a big one.
Those ladies were dedicated to their jobs. They would do whatever they could to serve students. They knew we had to eat there (or chose to do so) and would do their best to find something if it wasn't out... or try to make whatever they had to give better. Another thing I miss are the 2 choices of eating areas on campus and the hours. The dining hall wasn't open especially late, but the snack bar/fast food counter in the SUB was. Here all food service is now closed by 9 PM and most food is unavailable between 7 and 9. (weeknights, weekends its slimmer pickings)
Anyway, this entry is in memory of Carolyn, Missy, Alisha, Sandi, and Kerri. The ladies that would work as hard as they could to help make our day just a little brighter. I enjoyed how they could turn a bad day to good or a great day to greater. These ladies never made a fuss if we had to come in near closing or whatever. They just wanted to offer us the best they could.
