The first thing I posted I had a friend beta first before I posted it. And she is a ruthless, wonderful beta. She was like - ok, I'll do this but I hope you aren't sensitive to criticism. I said Nope I need this.

She sent it back to me covered in "red"

I sucked it up, did what she said and it was pretty good by the time I got it "fixed"

I sent her something a few weeks ago and there was maybe two changes and both were just minor suggestions (which I took because she was clearly correct)

I mentioned to her about the difference between me as a writer in fic one and my latest- she said I'd come a long way. So I can't write War and Peace - I'm pleased with my growth as a writer. It doesn't mean I still can't get better though!

BTW - don't give it to your cat - he probably feels he is far superior to you anyway. No need to make it worse.

I just sold a new book but it took them two months to say yea or nay and I was sure they had figured out that my stuff sucked and I couldn't write for shit. Turns out I am still fooling people :)

And yes, my cat is rather uppity, I might just not tell him about it.

You are not fooling anyone. It's a business - why pay for something they don't want? They obviously want you.

Be thankful he is only uppity. The girl in my icon? Psychotic.

I had assumed at they had been reading someone else's stuff when they sent me the contract or the submission editor was a drunk :)
