Chapter Five
"Are you two even close to ready?" Dean called up from the foot of the stairs.
"Hold on!" Chace screamed from the attic.
"Hold on." Dean muttered shaking his head as he stomped back to the kitchen. "What the fuck you think I've been doing?"
Sam looked up from his paper with an arched eyebrow. "You do realize that they are just going to school, not to prom right?"
Dean paused and glared at his brother for moment. "You do know you aren't funny right?"
Sam chuckled as he went back to the paper. "Least I'm not pacing around like an expecting father."
Dean grabbed the paper from Sam's hand. "You aren't nervous at all?"
Sam made a motion to grab the paper back but Dean kept it out of his reach. "Because they are going to school together for the first time? No."
Dean took a step back as Sam stood up to get his paper back. "Why not? What if something happens?"
Sam paused at that. "Dean what do you think is going to happen at high school?"
"They could be mean to him, they could beat him up, they could..." he paused as he struggled to envision other horrible circumstances.
Sam yanked the paper out of his brother's hand. "I rest my case." he said sitting back down.
"You do know kids can be mean right?" Dean asked sitting across from him.
Sam laughed as he asked. "Dean, when was ANYONE mean to you in high school? In any school for that matter?"
Dean paused as he pondered that. "Well they are mean to other people."
Sam put the paper down and sighed. "Dean, Chace is as popular if not more so that you ever were. He is on the varsity swim and baseball teams, there isn't a girl in that school that wouldn't drop her panties for him and I am willing to bet more than a few guys as well. Adam is not ugly, mean or a dork, and being Chace's brother is a mortal lock that people will like him. So will you please just calm down?"
Dean was silent for a few seconds. "More popular than me?"
Sam shook his head and he went back to the paper.
"Ok how do we look?" Chace asked as the two of them came barreling into kitchen.
Dean had to admit, they looked fucking amazing.
They were both clad in well worn jeans that seemed to hug just about every curve they possessed. It was obvious they were both Winchesters from the way the front of their jeans bulged and the back of them cupped their ass. Chace had a plain white t-shirt on, reminding Dean of how he used to dress back in the day while Adam had a red plaid shirt open with a black t shirt under that. Their hair looked as if they both woke up yet every strand perfectly placed, Dean was pretty sure they could walk through a wind storm and not have their look upset in the least. They were both obviously two, healthy teenage male on the cusp of becoming stunning men.
"Not bad." Dean said with no emotion in his voice whatsoever.
"Whatever. Sam how do we look?" Chace said looking to his other brother.
Sam looked up from his paper and smiled. "Like two of the most fuckable boys in West Texas High." Both boys blushed slightly as they took the compliment in stride. "I'm sure you guys will be beating the girls off with a stick."
"Won't be beating too hard." Chace said grinning as he elbowed Adam, who grinned back.
"You guys got money?" Dean asked reaching for his wallet.
"I got money Dean. Sheesh." Chace exclaimed as he grabbed for his jacket hanging on the peg behind him. "It's going to be ok mom." he said sarcastically.
"Be a shame to get your ass spanked on the first day of school." Dean said giving him a glare.
"You'd have to catch me." Chace said taunting him as he made his way towards the back door.
"I catch you, you ain't walking normal again." Dean warned.
"Promises, promises old man." Chace said, back door halfway open.
"Old?"
"Adam, run!" Chace called out as Dean exploded across the kitchen after his youngest brother.
The two boys ran towards Chace's jeep as Dean ran and struggled to take his belt off at the same time. He got it halfway off as they pealed off down the driveway. "You gonna have to come home sooner or later!" Dean yelled after them.
But the smile on his face was as wide as it had been since his dad had died.
"Dean." Sam called from the back door, he had the phone in his hand. "It's Ash."
The smile instantly faded. "Fuck."
"So you have a lot of friends?' Adam asked as they drove down the long stretch of road.
Chace shrugged causally. "I guess, I mean I know a lot of people but I wouldn't call them friends."
"What would you call them?"
Chace thought about a second and then looked at his brother. "I wouldn't."
"I wasn't that popular at my school." Adam said looking down.
"Why not? I'd think you got along with everyone."
"I don't like crowds I guess..." he said distantly.
They sat in uncomfortable for a few minutes when Chace finally said. "Well I might not be all that popular after the last month or so."
"Why?"
Chace kinda chuckled. "I kinda told the some people I was bisexual."
Adam felt his mouth drop open in shock as he stared at Chace as if he had sprouted another head or something. "What people?"
Chace kind of shrugged. "Um, all of them?"
Adam was blown away by his brother's declaration. In a million years he would have never guessed someone like Chace was into guys but here he was...admitting it. It changed everything, here he had thought he was the only person in the world that had those feelings...
"Hey you're ok with that right?" Chace asked, noticing that Adam had said nothing for a long time.
"Huh?" Adam asked looking up. "I mean yeah, yeah I'm fine."
Chace suddenly regretted telling him anything. Things had been going so well and now, now it felt like Adam was doing his best to push his way out of the car through the passenger door. It didn't matter much he supposed since it wasn't like he wouldn't have heard it at school. Chace was more than popular enough to not be openly mocked at school for liking guys but ever since he had declared his preference in the locker room things had changed.
He hadn't been invited to the same parties, he didn't get asked out as much as he used to...though a couple of girls had found him being bi a turn on which was hot. But of things had been bad for him, it had been even worse for Nathan. Where Chace didn't see liking guys as a hit to his masculinity, Nathan had prided himself on being an alpha male douchebag and that was a difficult image to pull off when people knew you liked to suck dick.
Chace could handle random people shunning him but if his own brother started...
He tried to push the thought out of his mind as they pulled into the parking lot.
"Are you two insane?" Ash asked as they sat down in his office.
"Is that a trick question?" Sam asked trying to deflect the belligerence of the question away from Dean before he lost it.
"You do know that Chace is barely hanging on by a thread right?" he said tossing their little brother's file down in front of him. "I mean fighting, drug use and now according to the school counselor he came out as bisexual."
Sam tried to hide his shock as he looked over to Dean who was staring at Ash with an open mouth, "Come again?"
Ash opened the file and turned it around for Dean to read. "Seemed he not only declared himself bisexual but according to the kids who have been talked to it was heavily implied that he was having sex with his cousin at the time."
Dean leaned forward and grabbed the papers as he began to leaf through them furiously. "Taylor? He said he was sleeping with Taylor?"
Sam's mind quickly moved past that thought and began to calculate the bottom line. "This is about Adam." he said grimly.
Ash looked at him. "This is about both of them. Hard enough to make a case for you guys to keep custody of Chace, he is almost 18 and he's lived with you two for his entire life but Adam?" Ash pulled another file out. That's a whole other problem."
"What kind of problem." Sam asked taking the file.
"History of abuse, broken family, multiple instances of police having to come out to break up fights with his parents. And there is the fact he's a runaway."
Both Winchester's looked up in a blur.
"Yeah I figured you didn't know that. His stepdad is alive and though he isn't actively looking for him, he is collecting the state assistance for him and he has said that in no uncertain terms he is not ready to give that up."
"I don't want any money for him, let the asshole keep the check." Dean said bitterly.
"Isn't that simple." Ash said coming from from the desk.
"It never is." Dean said muttering.
"You and Sam are asking for custody of Adam, that means the stepdad is out a check period. But that isn't my concern."
Sam closed the file and handed back to Ash. "Chace."
Ash nodded.
"What about Chace?" Dean asked, confused by the entire conversation.
Sam sighed and tried to explain. "With all the strikes Chace has against him already the fact that we are harboring a runaway who has been sexually abused...well it paints a picture."
"What kind of picture." Dean growled.
"One that they don't grant custody to." Ash said answering him.
Dean looked to Sam and Ash for a few seconds and then it dawned on him. "You mean they think we are just collecting sex toys?"
Ash said nothing but it was obvious by the way he looked away that Dean had nailed it.
"We aren't touching those kids!" Dean said standing up pissed.
"No one is saying we are Dean." Sam said grabbing his brother's wrists. "It just looks that way."
Dean looked at Sam and the two of them had a long conversation that entailed no words whatsoever.
Dean sighed defeated as Sam let go of his arms. "They think we're queer." Dean said finally.
"It isn't that you and Sam may or may not be gay that they will look at." Ash said carefully.
"It's that we're brothers." Sam answered for him.
"And that Adam and Chace are your brothers too."
Dean sat back down, his hands covering his face as he struggled to regain his composure.
"What do we need to do?" Sam asked quietly.
Ash shook his head as he went back around his desk. "Look guys, we have all known each other forever and I ain't judging at all..." he ran a hand through his hair as he chuckled. "Hell I've been the meat in a Winchester sandwich more than once and I am not complaining but this isn't about me. It's about the court."
"What do we need to do?" Dean asked in a much harsher tone looking up.
"Girls wouldn't hurt." Ash said finally. "A couple of them actually, and one of you might want to think about moving out with one of them."
"Move out?" Dean sputtered.
"You guys are closing in on thirty Dean, no one lives at home with their brothers this long without a cause." he saw the angry stares from both of them and held up his hands in surrender. "I am just the messenger here guys. I am just saying what the court is going to ask."
"Anything else?" Dean asked in a hollow voice.
Ash paused and then steeled himself for his last suggestion. "Yeah, whatever is going on with them, there is no way in the world those two boys can be seen as ANYTHING but brothers And I mean anything. Chace is already suspect because of his admission, and with Adam's history the last thing they will want to do is place him with someone who could be considered a sexual predator."
"Chace?" Dean exploded. "He's 17!!"
"He's 17 and admitted that he was having sex with the Scott brothers since your dad died to just about the entire school. If not a predator at the very least sexual aggressive, and that is enough to make sure Adam never sleeps in your house again."
Dean's face was red with rage and Sam wasn't sure if he was going to jump across the desk to hit Ash in the face or not. "What's our other option?" Sam asked, knowing it already.
"You can send Adam back and the state drops the whole thing. It is almost a slam dunk you get to keep Chace."
"That's a crap choice!" Dean growled.
"Those are the choices in front of you." Ash said sitting down.
"Come on Dean." Sam said grabbing his brother's arm. Dean resisted for a moment and then allowed Sam to pull him out of the the room.
Ash had no idea what they were going to choose...but either way it was going to tear their family up once and for all.
To be continued...
