This is the Sandra Bullock movie where she plays and has a personality and is paired up with who plays her . It is a sweet movie where Sandra and work together and are forced to come to terms with their feelings all the while navigating a series of funny, yet somewhat unbelievable obstacles which come to head at a very sweet and surprising ending.
See if I was a lazy reviewer, I could indeed just leave it there.
This is the Sandra Bullock movie where she plays a book editor and has an acidic Devil Wears Prada like personality and is paired up with Ryan Reynolds who plays her assistant. On the surface this is exactly what it seems to be. One of those cute, chick flick movies with very little substance but a crap load of awww in it. There is adorable Ryan who makes his scrunchy little faces (awww), there is a fluffy white puppy that barks adorably all over the place (awww), there is a funny and cantankerous old grandma who makes wise cracks played by Betty White (awww) and you could indeed say, warm, funny movie. Perfect for a date...have fun.
And if I was a lazy reviewer I could indeed just leave it there.
But those this movie is about 90 percent cool whip topping, sweet, light and empty calories, there is flashes of real people in here, all due to Reynolds. Every scene he is in he breathes a life into his character and the surroundings that is not only disarming, it is cruel and usual. Because the rest of the movie is a standard, pat Hollywood smooch fest, it is just mean to tangle a real actor just out of reach and then swallow him up by a stereotypical foreign stripper who gyrates to Frankie Goes to Hollywood. There is nothing here you haven't seen before, except Reynolds. He is flawless, not only in performance but in looks, and if you are indeed looking for a harmless date movie where you will laugh and go aww....you've found your choice.
If you are a Reynolds fan, wait for DVD, you aren't missing anything serious and you will want a freeze frame for his nude scene and ass...trust me. But if you are looking for a real romantic comedy that tells a good story...why oh why are you reading a review of ANYTHING that Sandra Bullock is in? Come on now.
Three out of Five stars...and that is because I saw his ass.
