Master kitty owner... makes me sound like... a perv... but anyway there's nothing you can do. Females give birth around 3 times a year. You can have the mother operated on and throw the kittens away but to me that's rather brutal (this coming from a cat lover; other people may think otherwise though). In my case, I try to give them away (by pairs so that the kittens won't be lonely) to people who want them hence my constant pestering of everyone with regards to owning kittens. You can only give them away once they can start eating something solid, though, but when they start doing so will also depend, partly, on the mother. For Firefox (the mother of our first, second and third generation cats) she stopped letting her kittens drink milk at a rather early stage so they learned to eat solids early. This had the unwanted effect of seeing these kittens try to drink their mom's milk, drink from their sisters' teats and even try to see if they can get milk from their dad. But I digress....

Basically... you can have the mother operated on or throw the kittens away if you really don't want them... Our family made the other choice of keeping them and asking around for people who want cats.

P.S.- Firefox's grandchildren (from her daughter Mozilla)- a litter of 4 will be named after other stuff since my family expressed dismay at having them named after mecha, computer OS or even Arthurian knights. Anyone reading have any suggestions?

I think the word you were looking for is 'neuter.' You neuter either the male or the female cats if you don't want them to reproduce. I have read in a book, though, that it may cause their position in their social circle to go down (Fertile cats are more dominant).

I LOLed at the kittens suckling the ones of the male cats. And I am happy that my mother cat is very thorough with her litter (this is her second batch though).
