I adored this song when I first saw this episode. If the situation weren't enough to bring you to tears, this song definitely is. I watched this part of "Tabula Rasa" over and over again because of how beautifully the song goes with the show. And, when this is the version you fall in love with, the more peppy pop version Branch released is just a travesty. The more I watched this bit the more I realized how much this show treats Buffy and Giles like lovers (with the exception of all of Buffy's "ew" comments--which I suspect were used to fend people off of a taboo subject, and the exception of all the "father's love" comments aimed at Giles by people who didn't even know him.) The explicit parallels between Tara and Willow and Buffy and Giles had been going on for at least two episodes before this. At any rate, it's Giles' abandonment of Buffy that drives her to Spike (I'd also like to note how Buffy is addicted to Spike the same way Willow is addicted to magic--Willow's metaphor is just much less of a metaphor.) At any rate, I've rambled on about all the things this beautiful song makes me want to write essays about. Just listen to it.

You can't put anything from "Once More With Feeling" up against the music featured in the rest of the show, so I decided it got its own category. This is just someone's lyrics vid, but I adore "Going Through the Motions." I've already hammered home how much I love depressed, apathetic Buffy. This song is so amazing because it's got such brilliant lyrics about that depression and apathy and the peppy tune hides the meaning, just the way Buffy tries to hide her depression from her friends. And when I say "depression" I mean real actual depression, not the colloquial "aw, I'm sad" use of the word. If you've ever suffered from depression you know what I mean. At any rate, this song starts off the episode in style, the choreography is hilarious, and once you see this bit you know you're in for a treat. The entire rest of the episode is amazing, but this one remains the one I sing when I'm doing the dishes. (Please tell me I'm not the only one who sings when they do the dishes?)
Also, how evident is it that I re-watch Season Six on a regular basis? Geez. Granted, at the moment I only have seasons 4-7, so it's not like I can go back to the glorious 2 and 3 or I'd even want to re-watch 4 and 5, but still. Obsessed much? At any rate, the later episodes are far fresher in my mind, which makes for all these choices.
