This weekend, I made my final tuition payment to the University of Minnesota. With that $800.00 check I paid off all the debts I had accumulated over the last four years. That last sentence only takes monetary debts into account, I am certain that I still am in debt to people but this debt is not monetary. As human beings we are all in debt to one another, for the prices of socialization. That may or may not have made any sense, either way it is an exceptionally cynical way to view social interaction, I don't know if I am proud of that or not.
Anyway, paid for tuition and crap. Some may be asking how this is possible, it is pretty simple. You know all the things you have purchased over the last couple years, like furniture, video games, computers, dvds and so on? Yeah, I haven't purchased any of those things. Or if I have, the money which was spent on these things composed a very small percentage of the money I have earned during the time period. So now, as I am fond of saying, all the money I make will be mine, rather than being the University's money which I was just holding on to. I don't know what that really means in any concrete sense for me. I have lost my main excuse for the lack of living which I have been beset by for the last few years, but that probably won't change anything.
I celebrated this new found freedom to purchase things, by purchasing things. Hooray for materialism!
