It's been a while since I've updated, so I'm going to share some random facts that I've obtained along the way:
First I thought I should start by honoring finals:
A.)
It has commenced...finals week is upon us in full force, seizing what sanity I have left after a menacing term. The thought of a pure, utopian society has faded while Flagler has captured the last breath of any rational existence and conquered our self-worth. In coming days it is likely to see a plethora of unpleasant faces staring into an oblivion that can only be experienced by the Flagler society. The underlying prolifigacy in which this institution so loves to put forth has taken a toll on our already feeble carcasses, in result of consuming repulsive dining hall rations. The possibility of survival is a distant notion...God help us all...
Also in honor of finals:
Now I lay me down to study,
I pray the Lord I won't go nutty.
If I should fail to learn this junk,
I pray the Lord I will not flunk.
But if I do, don't pitty me at all,
Just lay my bones in the dorm hall.
Tell my prof I did my best,
Then pile my books upon my chest.
Now I lay me down to rest,
And pray I'll pass tomorrow's test.
If I should die before I wake,
That's one less test I'll have to take!
B.)
So, when it comes to emotions, I'm on the extreme end of the spepctrum...I realize this...but I've alsways been ashamed of that because4 people often label it with bad associations, I'm called a drama queen...not being spiritual enough because I'mm letting my emotions get in the way...and to some degree it's right. But in another way, I'm made the way that GOD wants me, and if that's super-emo, then it's for a reason...I've never been able to control my emotions, no matter how I try to contain it...and then it came! FINALLY! Something good about my emotional self:
Coming from my Intro to Exceptionality Book:
"Giftedness--Advanced development across intellectual areas within a specific academic or arts-related area or unusual organizational power to bring about desired results; also, outstanding abilities capable of leading to high performance."
"Social and emotional characteristics--"Somewhat unique. Emotional Intensity. Just as students who are gifted are more able cognitively, they frequently experience emotional reactions at a deeper level than their age peers do, showing a capactyiy for emotional intensity, or the ablility to focus emotions for long periods on a single subject or idea."
That's my defense and I'm sticking to it! ;)
C.)
Since many people will be going into the ocean, and the biggest worry is sharks, I thought that I would share this interesting fact about the creatures:
Sharks posses a 6th sense, if you will...the ability to sense electrical current through a complex system called the "ampullae of Lorenzini." They are pores on the top of the sharks' head...it is filled with sensory cells with nerve fibers that can sesnse weak electrical current fields at short distances. The interesting thing about this is, a Great White sharks' pores are so large and so sensitive to electricity that they cannot be kept in captivity for this reason...That's right...the electricity of the tanks would kill Jaws...that's why you haven't ever seen a Great White at Sea World. Tasers anyone?
D.)
Mark 3:1-5
1Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone."
4Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent.
5He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
This is great because Jesus didn't violate the Sabbath, he simly refused to obey the MAN-MADE laws that went against the original intent of it. By having the man stand in front of everyone, he was having people observe the Sabbath as God originally intended, not the list of rules and regulations that it had become. The bible says "Keep the sabbath HOLY" not REST...By healing the man's hand, Jesus was in a sense "feeding the hungry." He was obeying God's intention for the Sabbath, and keeping it HOLY (in the sense of Matthew 25), by following God's will of reaching to the oppressed in his name. Just think about how this applies to your life today, because it does.
That's enough random information to hurt my head right after finals...still fun though eh? More to come later, I'm sure...I'm going surfing now.
