Since I don't have a structured bible study...I've been focusing on different ways that God comes...So, lately, I've been depressed. Depressed about my situation, depressed about my friends who seem so lost, or those who seem to be stuck in a hard place right now. It leaves so much room for us to question, "why isn't God coming now?" Well, I was thinking about it, and I believe that is one of the ways that HE comes. Let me start my example with nothing better than the word.
1Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. 3So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."
4When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it." 5Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.
I'm going to start with this for now...
So...I gave that story to think about this...God comes...in the waiting. When we are going through trials, God is waiting...so that the end result will give him more glory. We may not be physically sick as Lazarus was, but there is a time when every single person is spiritually sick...and is in the midst of a trial, where God waits.
"There is impoliteness in our experience of living. There is darkness and pain. But the wonder and the joy and the suprise are that even in the middle of darkness and loss is the unexpected presence of God."
What I love about this quote is...even though God is waiting...he is still there. He allows us to go through our trials so that we will run harder for him...so that we will press on...And when God's waiting is over...we come out of our trial...we come out of our hard time even stronger than before, and that brings HIM glory.
When I think about it, in my head anyways, I think about the book of Job...If God hadn't stepped back...what would that book say to bring him glory..."God blessed Job, and Job loved God?" No. The book of Job is perfect the way it is.
So I guess I'll end my thoughts with the Lazarus story...
43When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" 44The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.
Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."
The Plot to Kill Jesus
45Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, put their faith in him.
