My sister's been taking language classes lately. She's actually taking so many language classes at once that I'm not even sure I can remember the entire list.

"So--what?" I asked, "You're just going to throw yourself at them and hope something sticks?"

"Yeah, that sounds about right," she said ruefully.

"Okay, dude," I said, remembering the year I decided it would be a good idea to take Chinese and Japanese at the same time. I figured the experience hadn't fried my brain then, hers would probably be alright.

But this morning she confessed she could remember bits and pieces of her Chinese and Polish classes, "but Georgian I only remember as a haze of terror."

"That's probably going to make tonight's class awkward," I said.

My sister laughed, "Yeah, I remember the teacher, just not the words."

"'I can only remember this class in flashbacks,'" I said.

"Yeah," she said, laughing, "pretty much. Georgian is hard."

"And to think, you were worried about Chinese."
