City of Heroes has just shut down. Crio, Hadron, Flechette, Piezoelectric, Tumult, Yew and Kesoth from Paragon City, and Tropane, Ankhare, Shantak and Fermion from the Rogue Isles are now gone.
That's the thing. It hadn't been. It was turning a profit. Paragon Studios had released information about what new content they were working on for Issue 24 on the at the end of August and on the Friday of that same week NCSoft said it was laying off Paragon Studios and closing CoH at 23:59:59 on 30th November. No warning signs had been seen prior to that. I believe their reason when pressed was that it no longer fitted the ethos of NCSoft.
Well, fuck NCSoft right in the ear, then. That's really crap. I'm not doing much gaming at the moment - 40K modelling and reading leading the spare-time field - but when I do, it's World Of Tanks, which is fun. There's nothing quite like driving around in (say) a King Tiger and blowing up French tanks as after-work therapy :)
