Argh!

Having finally sorted Orange out the week before last, and getting Internet access back after six weeks of Orange not actually taking payment when it was given, last night two power spikes knacker knightbird's PC's power supply ( Read more... )

How did I find them? Stupid.

One Saturday morning, early May. I phone them to ask about my internet account, after it appears to have been blocked. I discover that they haven't actually been taking payment for the past few months, so I have a sizable bill, and they have suspended my account. There has been no contact from them saying that I haven't made payments, just the normal 'click this link to see your monthly report' e-mail. They tell me I must have received e-mails about the fact I had missed payments. I check, and there are no e-mails since they were Wanadoo, shortly after changing package.
Me: "I'd like to make a payment then, please."
Orange: "With what?"
M: "A Debit Card."
O: "Oh... Okay..."
Details are given
O: "Okay, that will go through on the 23rd."
M: "I'm sorry? The 23rd? Why? I've just paid with a debit card, so you can take immediate payment."
O: "That's when our payments go through."
M: "No, your Direct Debit payments go through on the 23rd. Debit card payments should be instant"
O: "Oh... Are you sure?"
M: "Yes. As payment has been made, when will my account be re-instated?"
O: "It will be three to five working days from confirmation of payment."
M: "Why?"
O: "Because that's how long it takes."
M: "Right. So you can cut people off instantly, but it takes you three to five working days to reconnect them?"
At this point, I give up, and thank the rather dumb person for assisting me, and hang up.

After the Fayre (two and a half weeks after the call), I checked the account. Still down, and logging onto the website showed the account as still owing the same amount. I finally actually get through to Orange just after the Moots, and ask about the account. They tell me payment has been made, and the account is still down. I ask them how long it will take to reconnect.
O: "Ah... There, it's re-activated."
M: "So when I was told it would take three to five working days, the operator I was talking to was... incorrect?"
O: "Oh yes, we can reactivate accounts from here."

Death's too good for them...
