Ranka is one of the very few people he doesn't think is an utter and complete idiot. At first, she was just this girl who he had fun messing with. She was easily flustered, and easy to trick, so she was his ideal HA HA HA TEASING YOU PLEASES ME people. And getting information is his job so he could have used her to get more intel on what was going on around the Island, or just learning what other worlds are like.

And then he actually started to get to know her! As it turned out, she was more useful than just making fun of. Jay doesn't like depending on people, and he usually only trusts his own judgment and stuff. But! Listening to Ranka is really... relaxing? Like, he's usually all serious business but knowing someone so lighthearted who isn't a giant moron is a nice change of pace for him. And the fact that she still sticks with him even though he's a huge douche is also nice. Their friendship still isn't really at the point where he would open up to her though-- hardly anyone at all is there lol. But he will tell her about more things than he would others.
