[The feed opens to show a very close close-up of Toph's face. Her Sandshrew, Melon Lord, pulls it back a bit, and his claws can be seen for a second or two as he does so. As the camera pulls out a bit, the face of a Furret appears in the corner of the screen, looking over Toph's shoulder.]Does anyone know what's going on? I was training Suki ( Read more... )

That doesn't mean it's normal.

[Katara lets her hand come to rest on Toph's shoulder, smiling.] It's fine, Toph. Suki just evolved, is all. [She loves you for naming her after you guys' friend, by the way. It's nice to have reminders of home.] Pokemon do that when they gain enough experience from battles. Jet did the same thing when he reached level forty.

Oh. Well that's weird! [Suki's running circles around Toph now. Her nose is almost touching her tail.]

I've been meaning to ask you. Why did you name your horse Jet? I thought you hated him.

Well... that was before... you know. [Katara sighs, glancing aside. She's remembering Jet's unclear death not death but really it's death according to the creators.] Before Lake Laogai.

Ohhhhh. [Awkward turtles are gathering.]

Anyway! [Toph hops up while Suki hop skips and jumps around some more. Melon Lord is joining in.] You two! We need to keep training! [She points to her Pokemon, which look at each other before bounding towards her, stopping short of tackling her into the ground.] We gotta be the best here! So no slacking!

You can...feel it? And that's just evolution. Don't worry, it's normal. A lot of pokémon go through it, but not all of them.

It's how I see. I'm blind, so I feel the vibrations in the ground to tell where things are.

A friend explained it to me, though I still think it's weird.

Huh, interesting! I've never heard of someone seeing that way. I know someone who sees by smelling and tasting everything...but not be feeling vibrations. How did you learn to do something like that?

It's a little weird, but it's a good thing! Since they usually get stronger when they evolve.

I could always do that. I'm an earthbender. Well, I was before I got stuck here. I can feel ok, but I can't bend anymore.

[Sugata blinks as he stares at the gear with slight interest.]

You could feel it changing with your feet?

Yeah.

I guess that would make sense if it were changing sizes from small to big-- was the evolution powerful enough to make vibrations in the ground?

I can feel really small things too, like back home, we had some tiny bugs like ants, and I could feel them. I can also feel people breathe and their heartbeats, so something suddenly changing like that kind of catches my attention.

It's called evolution. It happens to most Pokémon as they level up.

And what do you mean by feeling it with your feet? That sounds really weird...

Yeah, Katara explained it.

Well, I can't use my eyes to see. Back home, I was an earthbender, so I could feel vibrations in the ground and tell where things were. I can't earthbend here, but for some reason, I can still feel my way around.

You know Katara?

[Oh... so she's a bender-thingy like Katara. Okay then.]

I guess that's good for you, so you aren't totally blind.

I think we keep some of our affinities when we come here. To an extent, anyway. [Like his affinity with cats, for example.]

Of course I know Katara! We were traveling with Aang together.

That's what it looks like. What affinity do you have then?
