Who is Ken Amada?
Ken is the youngest member of a special squad of students (plus a dog) from Iwatodai, Japan. These students and dog are awake during an extra hour of the night, that strikes right at midnight, called the Dark Hour.
Both of Ken's parents were also awake during this time, and two years ago, his mother was murdered by a runaway persona during the dark hour.
Afterward, the Kirijo group kept a close eye on Ken, knowing he had the Potential to summon a persona (an embodiment of his inner self, used to fight). In summer of 2009, having just turned eleven, Ken joined SEES.
However, it was not an act of altruism, but a chance to get stronger, and kill the teenage boy who had murdered his mother. Ken's hidden this fact from the start, and not a soul knows what he's really up to.
What is he doing here?
Ken is here simply because he has to be. He doesn't have a choice in the matter--and despite being a Rocket, Ken will fight for his own reasons.

There is little to describe the bond between two orphans who miss their mothers more than anything. Having developed much in the same way, Ken and Nemesis began their Journey in Johto at odds with each other. Their detest for each other was rivaled only by Ken's loathing for Shinjiro. However, due to a few moments of actually protecting each other, Nemesis and Ken finally formed a bond of trust.
Upon returning to Johto, Ken can honestly say that Nemesis still being with him is a relief. He doesn't quite know what he'd do without her. Their unspoken friendship is probably the only comfort he has in this strange world.

Ken's relationship with Mitsuru is a strained one. Very strained. The first person to come to Johto who recognized him and didn't disappear, he does feel some sort of bond with her--simply because, like him, Mitsuru remains. A large part of Ken just wants to give in to the way she wants to help and protect him. There's a weakness in him for her somewhat mothering nature. A big part of him desires to make friends, forget the past, and move on.
But that fact can't change that, underneath Ken's desire to get along with her, he can't bring himself to forgive her for what the Kirijo Group did when his mother died. He can't forgive her for covering his mother's murder up. Ken knows that this kind of thing is unhealthy, but he can't give in to her help. Not just yet.
It'd be much easier if she just hated him for what he's trying to do.

Ken has never felt any deeper hate than the hate he feels for Shinjiro Aragaki. You see, Shinjiro is the reason Ken's an orphan.
Revenge against Shinjiro is what is driving Ken to murder.
Upon finding out Shinji was still in Johto, Ken's resolution to find vengeance for his mother is doubled. But even having made up his mind, Ken still finds himself entertaining a few doubts here and there. What if what he's doing is wrong? What would his mother think? Does he really want to make enemies of his friends?
Shinjiro is really good at frustrating Ken to the point that he can get him to speak his mind where others can't. What a screwed up relationship.

How can you bring yourself to trust someone who keeps forgetting the things you've done? How can you really care about the things you do together when there's an ache in the back of your mind that knows it's unlikely he'll remember what you're doing in a month?
Ken wants a good relationship with Minato. He admires how mature and strong Minato can be. It's just becoming difficult for him to really... trust him. He's already forgotten twice.
But he'll still be the default when it comes to trusting someone.

In Ken's most logical opinion, Nia is a fool. She's too stupid, trusting and kind for her own good.
And yet he sees that her belief always seems to... pay off.
Nia's someone Ken really and truly likes. Someone who's kind and sweet and he thinks deserves the absolute best of luck. He wants the best for her, even if when they talk he may seem frustrated and annoyed.
He only hopes her believing keeps paying off.
