What do you live for?

[Anyone who's been in Johto for a while might recognize this text coming from this gear.

But things are so different from when he last asked.

For one, he's found his purpose. )

[... Ken, if only you could see the smile on Heather's face right now.]

...

you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear that, kiddo.

[... A pause.]

[It gets a small smile on Ken's end.]

I think it was the blanket fort. I have to make another one, this year.

Obviously, it's so much more than that. Heather knows that, though. He doesn't have to get all sentimental and sincere.]

YOU DO!

and take pictures of it and send them to me

gotta see how your fort-making skills have improved over the past year, y'know

[She does know that-- and it cheers her immensely even if he's not saying it right out.]

Do you think you're coming back to Goldenrod any time soon?

[Ken's not ready to abandon his new home, not yet, especially since the first time resulted in still-healing injuries. The cut on his head hasn't healed over yet, especially, and the bruises on his legs have yet to fade.

But he still hopes he can see her.]

I'm not sure... maybe after Christmas

I think we're planning on staying here for awhile, cuz I still need to get the badge from this town, plus i don't think I want Dad hiking through all this snow

but maybe I'll get to visit at some point

If I can't though, you gotta promise to have lots of fun in the snow with Miles and take pictures of it for proof, all right?

Sure. I'll send them with your Christmas present.

[How much "fun" will be had is... questionable, but they will do stuff in the snow. And not break any windows this time]

[As long as they're messing around in the snow (and preferably having hot chocolate and peanut butter crackers indoors afterwards next to a fire (or a heating vent), that's adequate for Heather.]

OHO

a christmas present, huh

that reminds me

what do you guys want?

I still gotta do my shopping

[Heather don't ask Ken that question. He's gonna be staring blankly at his gear for a moment, here.]

I don't need anything, but I can ask Miles if you want.

Christmas isn't about what we NEED!

.... well actually yeah it can be

but according to commercial consumerism, it's about what we want

so cough up or i will get you something so silly you wont even be able to handle it
