Because Pokémon are meant to fight battles. It's how they get stronger.

It's not like that at all. Lucia has almost never battled, and she's no worse off for it.

Not saying that every Pokémon has to battle, but trying to keep them all from fighting is worse than training them.

Plus, they can withstand a lot more than regular animals.
