No one here shows up with the weapons they had at home.

None of the shops here will sell weapons, either.

Is that right? [Or has he missed something?]

weapons, kurogane is to the point, figuring things out, kinda boring, definitely don't like this

Then why give us these pets?

I believe whoever brought us here wanted us to defend ourselves with the Pokemon, not with our own abilities.

So-- what? It's okay to maim each other as long as we don't do it ourselves? [That's stupid.]

Not at all; I believe you're missing the point. This world discourages others from fighting each other completely.

These things are supposed to be pretty powerful, right?

They are, yes. Their biology is most peculiar, considering most of them accomplish feats that should be impossible.

Then it doesn't make sense to take away mundane weapons and then give away animals that can do plenty of damage on their own.

The animal you're given when you first arrive will not attack you. The ones in the wild will, but that's when you employ you first Pokemon to fend them off.

And what's stopping people from training them to attack people?

To be honest, I'm not quite sure myself. There has only been one recorded case of a trainer using their Pokemon to injure another human, and that was for the purposes of... [hesitation] -- either way, even if a trainer does order their Pokemon to attack another human, the one being attacked as the option to use their own Pokemon to defend themselves.
