Oh, congratulations~ I didn't know you had an octopus.

He's quite something, isn't he?

[It's hard to tell whether the implication here is that the octopus is a creature worthy of pride and admiration, or if it's more that it's the Team Member We Don't Talk About of the roster.]

He does seem quite powerful. Though I wouldn't have expected you to have a Pokemon like that.

Ah, well, it was fortuitous chance that brought him into my roster--and the wish of a young lady by the name of Mammon. Under those circumstances, I could hardly refuse.

Ah, well, that would explain it. Mammon could be quite convincing.

You knew her, I gather?

I did, yes. She was quite an interesting person.

It seems to have turned out well for you, at least.

From what I knew of her, I'd completely agree.

For such an awkward creature, its range of attacks is astounding.

Oh? Does it learn other interesting moves besides Hyper Beam?

A full and versatile range. Though no Laser Beam, unfortunately.

I don't think there is a Laser Beam attack, sadly. Though Hyper Beam is fairly close already.

And I suppose I can make do with what's available, under the circumstances.

From the looks of it, you seem to be making do quite well so far.

What remains to be seen is how he fares against the other gym leaders. Though I don't foresee any great difficulties.

Well, Hyper Beam wouldn't be effective against the Pokemon at the Ecruteak gym, but I'm sure he has other moves. Having a good variety of skills available makes battles much easier.

Ecruteak is... [He's thinking back, taking stock of what little research he has on the gyms he doesn't live down the street from.] ...ghosts?
