BACKGROUND:

Ino Yamanaka was born in the same Asian suburb of New York as Sakura Haruno, where her family owned a flower shop. Her parents were overjoyed to finally have a child to love and to coddle, especially her father; almost as soon as she was brought home from the hospital, he showered her with affection, giving her everything that a child could ever want.

As the young girl grew older, she spent a majority of her time in her family's shop, learning the tricks of the trade. Her family took their profession very seriously, trying to uphold the tradition of the art while still managing to incorporate it into modern-day masterpieces. Ino inherited her family's passion, finding herself perfectly suited for the art of flower arranging.

She eventually had to move away from the comfort of the flower shop, however, and begin attending school. The transition was certainly a large one, but in her new surroundings, Ino flourished. A pretty and vivacious child, she had no problem making several friends, quickly becoming one of the most popular girls in her class. She didn't let her popularity go to her head, however; while she hung around other "popular" children, she also chose to befriend others, as well. One of her new friends was Sakura, a girl who lived in the same suburb as she did; because they got along amazingly well, the two young girls quickly became as thick as thieves. Ino also met a boy named Shikamaru, who, despite his lazy ways, was incredibly bright. It worked out perfectly for her; Ino may have been a smart girl, but her exhausting social life certainly took a toll on her. Having someone to help her with her schoolwork even if he only did it after she nagged and nagged and nagged was definitely a plus.

Her friendship with Sakura was soon to be tested, however, upon the arrival of Sasuke Uchiha, a boy Sakura knew... and a boy Ino fell head-over-heels with, although he didn't seem to act as if he even knew she existed. Viewing Sakura as a potential threat--which she certainly was; she had, after all, known Sasuke far longer than Ino had--Ino began bitter arguments with her friend. The two then went their separate ways for a bit.

Ino didn't outwardly mope over the loss of her friend, although she certainly felt the loss. She tried to find other friends, friends who had just as much in common with her as she had in common with Sakura. Finding a replacement best friend, however, was much harder than she originally believed it would be. Growing more and more frustrated, Ino began to lash back at people in little ways; because she was just a bit selfish--okay, so she was really selfish; it came from years and years of getting exactly what she wanted, no matter what it was--she believed that, if she wasn't happy, none of those around her should be completely happy. She began to subtly manipulate her friends and peers; she had always been good at reading people, after all, and she used her ability to her advantage, preying upon people's insecurities and weaknesses to make them just unhappy enough so that they turned to her for help and reassurance. It made her feel wanted and appreciated, although it still wasn't the same.

It was because of this need to be wanted--this desperate need of attention--that her powers began to show themselves. In order to try and manipulate people to depend on her, Ino, although she wasn't completely aware of it at the time, tapped into their minds, feeding off the most basic emotions and reactions in order to get what she wanted. However, she was aware that what she was doing wasn't something that just anyone could do; she was confused, but, at the same time, grateful for her apparent ability. Soon, she was trying to perfect it, to push it and make it better; she wanted to do more than just to read people's basic emotions. After pushing herself, she became able to catch glimpses of people's actual thoughts. Further experimentation led to the strengthening of her budding abilities, and, as such, she was soon able to read the minds of those close to her; she also found that her manipulative skills were strengthened, and that making others do things she wanted them to only became easier and easier.

One day, however, her manipulative abilities were taken to another level entirely. After focusing so intensely on a certain person--a girl who she believed to be a threat to her position as the queen bee--for quite some time, there was sudden rush... and suddenly, Ino was no longer Ino. It took a moment for Ino to realize where she was, but as soon as it hit her, she was back in her own body, surrounded by concerned friends wondering why she had suddenly spaced out. It was an exciting moment for Ino, but a confusing one, as well; she could never recreate that moment, perhaps because she could never recreate the intense anger as ridiculous as the reason for that anger was.

After Sasuke left school and went off to do his own thing, she and Sakura reconnected a bit; however, Ino was still intensely curious about her abilities, and was still trying to see if they had any limits. While Sakura was off doing good, Ino was off trying to discover what, exactly, she could do... and why she could do it. Therefore, when she heard about Xavier's Institute, she didn't even have a second thought. Her father did not want her to leave--he did, in fact, refuse to let her go, stating that there was nothing wrong with his precious daughter, and that the only place she belonged was at home with those who loved her best--but Ino always got what she wanted. Eventually, with her parents' tearful permission, she headed up to the Institute to find out all the answers to her many questions.

PERSONALITY:

At first glance, Ino seems to be nothing more than, well... an average teenager. Like almost every normal girl her age, Ino wants to be part of the "in" crowd; because of this, she tries to her hardest to fit in instead of stand out. It's not necessarily hard for her to do so, because she is, after all, a very pretty girl whose outgoing personality attracts people of all kinds. She can also be catty and obnoxious--just like every other teenager on the face of the planet--and she enjoys gossiping about just about anyone and everyone. If she knows you, she probably knows a little something-something about you.

Because of her desire to fit in, Ino is one incredibly vain individual. She's pretty, and she certainly knows it; however, her desire to look absolutely perfect is kind of an obsession. She might be stick-thin, but she suffers through all kinds of diets to make herself look even thinner. In her mind, one's appearance is everything. It's why she's also always in with the latest fashions; she can spot what's hot and what's not from a mile away, and all because she wants to be sure that she looks her best.

She also tends to hide her true self depending on specific situation. For instance, when Ino is around boys, she usually dumbs herself down and complains about her weight, because that's honestly what she believes boys want in a girl; it goes back to her wanting to fit in, to be the person everyone wants to befriend and to emulate. She can also be incredibly sweet and caring with to others, but only if she truly believes she can get something out of it. I guess Ino's attitude and how she acts depends on the amount of attention she's getting, because Ino wants a lot--a lot--of attention. It's part of being popular, after all. If she feels as if she's not getting enough attention, she will desperately try to think of a way to earn some more. She wants to feel appreciated and needed.

Around those she is most comfortable with, Ino will let her true self show. She's not a mean person, but the years of her getting whatever she liked have pretty much turned her into a spoiled brat. Ino wants what she wants, and she will usually do practically anything to get what she wants. If you don't play along with her--which people usually tend to do, thanks to her abilities--then you'd better watch out, because Ino has quite the temper. She won't beat people or anything, but she will certainly yell, huff, ignore certain people, and generally... act like a five-year-old throwing a tantrum. Her temper will also show itself when she feels teased, or when she is extremely annoyed.

Ino isn't a bad person, though; I mean, she tries her hardest to fit in and be popular, so of course she's going to try to befriend as many people as she can. If you are also one of the people she considers to be her close friends, she'll show you her gentler side, because Ino isn't just a flighty, bossy individual. She also possesses a softer, more kindhearted side, and she's more than willing to help her friends out if they need her.

APPEARANCE: Ino is a very pretty girl, and she knows it. She is slim and fit, although she claims that she isn’t nearly thin enough; standing roughly five feet and four inches tall, she probably doesn’t even think that she’s tall enough. She has cornflower-blue eyes and long, light-blonde hair, which, when pulled back into her trademark high ponytail, falls almost to her derrière; her bangs are always swept to the right side of her face, and they completely cover her right eye.

Ino doesn't exactly have a set outfit, because as the trends change, so does Ino's wardrobe. She's in-tune with the ins and outs of the fashion world, and so she's usually the first to spot a trend and the first to abandon it for something new.

Her color of choice is still purple, though. Forever and always, man.

POWERS:

Ino... is a telepath. Y'all know what that entails, lmfao. BUT BASICALLY... Ino can read read the thoughts of individuals when she actually tries to do so; she's not hit that point where she can just, you know, turn around and hear everything that people are thinking, but when she focuses for a moment or two, she can catch bits and pieces of people's thoughts. Her time at the Institute will certainly help her develop her this ability so that it becomes easier and requires less focus. Another part of her telepathy--well, technically it's a separate category, but it still ties in--is that she's an empath; basically, she can sense others' emotions. This doesn't take nearly as much effort as reading peoples' minds, probably because she's been doing it for so very long, even though she never really knew what she was doing.

Ino is also able to possess people, although she's not mastered this part of her abilities yet; the first time she did it, she was incredibly angry and jealous, and she's not really been able to recreate those same emotions. Creating a psionic link between herself and another person is a new territory for her, and so it's understandably difficult. That's the main reason she came to the Institute, really: Ino wanted to better understand this specific ability. When she actually possesses someone at this point in time, she certainly can't do it for very long--a few minutes or so at the most--and it's incredibly tiring. But she wants to improve her ability, and that's what the Institute is for, right? :D

Also, I know that I'm not the easiest person to catch hold of, and sometimes I do forget to respond to tags and stuff; however, please believe me when I say that I'm not trying to make myself scarce. Between work and school and the many other things going on in my life at the moment, I find myself to be rather short on time, and I do apologize for it. However, if you need to contact me about anything--anything--please feel free to send a private message to my personal account (perezosamente) or to send me an email (at greenlifesaver42@hotmail.com).
